Deer Hunting

I shot a little meat buck 2 weeks ago. Not much more than Bambi's little brother. Cut it with a fork tender and delicious. I just got access to a piece of land locked property that's loaded with deer and got a kitchen pass for this Sunday to see if I can fill my second tag.

My 11 year old son got his very first buck this year. Big 3 point mule deer. He dumped this nice buck in his tracks with one shot at 402 yards. Made a perfect high shoulder shot using my custom hunting rifle with harris bipod and 140gr Berger Hunting VLDs from the prone position on a hill. Buck dropped so hard he was dead before he even hit the ground. He is an amazing marksman for such a young boy. Always has been. Total natural. I think he's a better shot than me already! Lol.

Boned out and stuffed in Dad's pack for the hike out.

I like to see kids involved and score. I get more satisfaction out of that then killing myself. Nice buck! Matt

I agree. I've shot so many animals over the years (whitetail/mule deer, bull and cow elk, black bears, turkeys, antelope, badgers, coyotes, game birds, etc) that I like being involved with other people's successful hunts just as much, or maybe even a little more, than if I get something myself.

Watching my son take his first buck took the cake. It was the absolute pinnacle of my hunting career to date. I have never been so excited for anything in all my years of hunting. We were jumping up and down, high fiving, hollering, and hugging! My son actually had to calm me down! Lol. Best hunting experience I've ever had the pleasure to witness :)

Thank you. I'll tell him :)

We saw a bigger 4x4 buck a couple days earlier, but he was on private land just over the public land border. Never would come onto the BLM land we were hunting. It was our last day in the area and my son had passed up 7 small bucks, so he was going to shoot the next fork horn he saw. Well the one he shot is the next buck we saw :) Rifle caliber is a 6.5 Remington Magnum

Well, our rifle season is over. While I did manage to put a few deer in the freezer, my opening morning was spent gutting and dragging the deer my stepson and his cousin shot. It was my stepson's first deer and my nephew's first buck. I will try and post a photo.

Here is the only buck I ended up with this year. one of my biggest ever, so a really good year. my soon to be hunting buddy. he only went once this year, but did great. I think next year he will go more. I plan on getting him shooting more than his BB gun this year. really looking forward to it.

Congratulations to everyone!
My son shot this doe during the WV youth season last year.

I shot this buck second day of the WV gun season with same rifle. 257 JDJ cartridge 17 inch barrel. Nice compact rifle.
