Deer Hunting with a 6BR or Improved

hunter14806,

I use a 6BRX on Va Whitetail. I use a 100 gr Nosler Par. works great. I have only shot them out to 100yds, that is about all you get where I hunt.

A 6BR loaded with any of the hunting type bullets, X-Bullets, Nosler Partition's etc will drop any whitetail on the planet with one shot.. The problem will be the bullets...don't try to shoot them with some of the thin jacketed target bullets that we all use for benchrest.. A hunting type bullet driven at 2900-or higher will pass right through a whitetail, after all, it'a about the same a standard .243 or 6mm Remington in the velocity department and alot more accurate to say the least.... I have a friend who took a worn, SHOT OUT,6BR barrel and put it on a whitetail rig and has takem alot of whitetails with it... they may be worn for benchresting but you'll never in a lifetime wear one out for hunting purposes.. after all you are shooting at a basketball...

Hunter, you've got to remember that those Penn-syl-tucky folk hunt deer with just about anything that has a tube and spits something out. Last time I heard, they are testing the ballistic qualities of a pea shooter. Longer McDonald straws seem work the best, but don't use split peas as non rounded surface is ballistically inferior. Go ahead just as Frank - he'll tell you. Nice to hear from you Frank - Hope eveything is good with you and the family!

Whitetail are not real hard to kill a 6BR shooting a quality bullet will it as long as ranges are kept in check.

I'm in the process of finishing a 4 year article on 6BR as a hunting rifle and have taken 4 mulies from 282 to 366 yards with
a 10 twist 6BR and ancient 6mm Nosler Zippedo's 85 gr......all bucks were 4X4 mature bucks and got 1 antelope at almost 430 yards.......ALL 1 shot kills and photos of each one...I built the 10 twist out of parts and peices all used stuff and havn't tried 8 twist as things are just fine with 10 at this time....I shoot p-dogs and coyote with this same rifle and 55,58 &65 gr Nosler and Hornady.....Bullet placement is such a slam dunk it is hard to beleive and you get to see impact as recoil and muzzle jump
isn't even a issue......I have not found a reason so far for not
continuing to use this rifle and it is just so user friendly......I have another 6BR in 13 twist just for P-dogs and
rock chucks and it too has been a happy rifle, it shoots 55 and 58gr. good and 65 V-max really well......detonates at reasonable speeds and ranges........Ron Oates/Montana Outfitters

I disagree. Paolo from www.leobrass.com has dropped numerous deer with his 6BRX using Berger 105 VLD bullets. All were one shot drops. The longest was 410 yards. He made everyone jealous. I think the Berger 105 makes a great hunting round based on Paolo's experience!
