Deer/Antelope Bullet for 6.5x47/Creed

Not real fancy, but the controlled expansion and secured core of the 129/140 Hornady SST has never let me down from a 6.5/06 between 20 yds to just shy of 300 yds. This is on whitetails up to 242# dressed weight. Golf ball size to US Quarter size exits on ribcage shots is normal...good energy dump...lots of goo north of the diaphragm and still able to penetrate the shoulder on quartering shots with solid core integrity for deep penetration.

Wanting to know what’s your preferred deer/antelope bullet for this sized cartridge. Buddy used 140 Berger Hybrids in his creed last year on antelope and they worked; but I wasn’t real impressed with them. (They definitely didn’t perform like 215 Hybrids I know and love) while dressing them it seemed like the Berger penciled through to me, and didn’t really expand. I’m leaning towards the 143gr ELD-X for my 6.5x47. What’s everyone else use or thoughts?

Depends on definition of "impressive"?
I don't like blowing the crap outta the critter that's gonna be my supper. So, I kinda like when a bullet 'zips' thru the vitals without unduly wreaking havoc on otherwise edible meat...
Traditionally, a Barnes or stout Partiton would be a sound choice, but I've found the Berger 130HVLD to be lethal, and not overly ruinous. Plus, they'll fly a looong way, accurately, if you're wanting to reach out and touch one. And, JMO, the 130gr is a better 'fit' for the x47L sized case, than a 140...

Good luck!

I have used nosler accubonds with very good performance , a buddy saw how good they performed at 300 and is now switching from partitions to accubonds in his 270 stating he has never had that performance out of his partitions....

i use the 140 orange box "hunting" ,855yds is my farthest anelope with 6.5x47 Lapua! 650yd and whietail 400 to 550 and all i can say is DRT! no running.

using most any other bullet will drop your BC, i have no plans on ever changing nor do i need to!

Also a big fan of the accubond. Very accurate and performs well on game.

Same here! Many years ago when the Nosler Ballistic Tip came out I shot several smaller WV deer with them. None performed well. I switched to the Nosler Solid base, and it worked well for many years. But that is also no longer available. I have been very happy with the Accubond bullet.

image.jpeg My VERY favorite 6.5 Bullet is the Berger 130 grain hunting VLD. Have used it for many hunting trips and the accuracy is excellent. I have used it in 6.5 X 284--6.5 X 47 and currently a 6.5 Creedmoor. Attached is a recent 6 shot group breaking in the Creed/Krieger built by Alex Wheeler. Can't wait to start 500 yard load development. 41 grains Varget @ 3004 fps through magneto speed.

The 130 Grn Sierra Game king Gruesome!!!!

My brother blew the lungs out of a buck this year with a 147eldm.
Penciled in, gapping fist sized hole coming out.

Another vote for the 130 Berger hunting. I run them at 2950 fps out of my 6.5X47. Very good performance on deer. I also shoot the 130 Accubond in my other 6.5X47. Results have also been very good with this bullet.

I also used to use the 130s and agreed that they are a better fit for the 47 case until Rem06 got me using 140s. I will never leave them now. 140 and the 47 are like PP&J.

What twist barrel are you shooting? I've got one in 8.5 and the 130s shot better than the 140s.
