DEEP CREEK 1000 YD MATCH

It's been a thrash for me. Got into the new house just before New Years. Didn't get the lathe set up and ready until Feb. Got my two barrels chambered--300 SAUM IMP (Alex reamer) and 6 BRA.

Got the SAUM out week before last and fire formed 150 cases. Started initial load development last week at 385 yds and immediately found a load that shows me what to do for tuning at 1000 yds next Friday. Gotta love 30 cals......

The 6 BRA has been a different story. Started this week with initial load development, 300 yds this time to make it easier to see the holes on paper. I spent the first three range sessions verifying H4895 doesn't work with this reamer. I can't get enough neck tension.

I have cut three barrels with this reamer and none have shot H4895. I think that's because my .267 neck, which requires a .264 loaded round, results in case neck walls to thin to hold enough neck tension.

Regardless of the why, Varget always works well with the chambers I cut with this reamer and and Varget worked again today. I still need to find the high node, then I'll be able to tune this rifle next Friday as well.

I'll also be bugging Alex for a better 6BRA reamer......

4895 is the only powder that works for the bra....lol.....as I head to Missoula Friday with 9 different combinations for a new barrel. I think it's a barrel thing probably more than a reamer thing, but you may be right Blaine. I've had some goodies on "other".

I can't get more than 30 PSI seating force, even with .005" of neck tension. While seating force isn't the same as neck tension, there is some correlation. I think if the necks are too thin then the brass yeild too soon. At least that is my theory.

Regardless, I bet Alex has a reamer figured out that works perfectly with Lapua brass......

You ever try the low node with that low seating force and H4895? May be worth looking at 29.6-30.4gr. I generally see 20psi with a .268” neck and a .265” loaded round using a .2615” bushing.

Dave.

If I run out of Varget and 4166 doesn't work; and I if I find RL-15.5 and that doesn't work; then I might have to try the low node. So far, every time I have tried the low node at Deep Creek it hasn't worked.

Maybe’’
It might dry up by then or it freaking might snow again. Lol
How’s the road going up there ?
