Like PhilC, I use Redding type S dies & I decap with a universal die. But, I remove the depriming pin and leave the expander ball in place. I have not experienced any adversities doing so. And, of course, I utilize the appropriate neck bushing. I replaced all of my lower quality dies with Redding for all my rifle cartridges and Hornady New Dimension for my handguns. I do have some Redding pistol dies too.
I gave up on cheap, which equals low quality, dies a very long time ago. In doing so my load quality increased exponentially and run-out all but disappeared completely.
