Decap pin size

Hornady 22 Hornet ammo has smaller than standard flash hole, learned that because my new resizer die's decap pin is stuck in a Hornady case. I have no idea why Hornady does this. Just brought my last Hornady 22 Hornet ammo because of this problem. Therefore, a typical diameter decap pin will not work. Any solution? Die manufacturers should be aware and not ship resizer die with inappropriate size pin!

I just had a thread on this. The lee decaping die offers the smaller pin. Us that and you be fine. ( buy two as the bend easy)

I have had that problem. Just keep the pin tightly in the decap rod, turn it slightly on the side of a grinding wheel, take off about .001" and try it. Little smaller works OK.

Or do like tenring says.

Thanks for replies. Have older Lee hand die set for the 22 Hornet. Same problem with oversize pin. Previously contacted Lee and was suggested to sand down. Ticks me off that I have to put up with this. Manufacturers should be aware of this problem. New die, first case has stuck decap pin in it. Phone calls going Monday and somebody is going to hear about this!

Calm down, lol. Really its not a big deal. Grind it down and move on. You will find that making mods to things in the reloading world is pretty common.

DeerSlayer, Forester .22 Hornet dies come with a small diameter de-capping pin-- .061 diameter. Hope this helps relieve the frustration level ;) dedogs

Thanks for reply but my new Forester die's decap pin is stuck in a Hornady 22 Hornet case because the the pin is too large for the flashole. The pin works fine for Winchester case. .061 is too large for Hornady case. I am bewildered as to why Forester does not realize this. How many decades has the Hornet been around?

DS, Wow that must be a really tiny flash-hole. .061 fits my Lapua 6 BR brass just fine. Perhaps a call to Hornady is in order. If it turns out that the flash-holes are supposed to be that small, I'm gonna have to get me some. I think Hornady might be on to something since many times small pistol primers work better than rifle primers do in the Hornet cartridge. Combine this with a tiny flash-hole and maybe....who knows? If you want to sell what brass you have, let me know. :) Provided they all have the tiny flash-hole.
