I'm pretty sure that Matt Kubic, who is the construction manager there told us at our last match at ORSA that they were planning to start hosting matches there when the 600 and 1000 yard ranges were finished sometime this year (2018). Matt is a competition sling shooter himself.

Matt said in another thread on here that he will be running the matches when the range was done and he would report back on this. He said that it would be around March or April I believe. Can't wait. Never have shot electronic targets..

I emailed Dead Zero and they said they will be complete this spring, and they will be hosting matches, The response time on the emails was quick and it all sounds great to me, I won't have to drive but 2hrs and at least I will get to shoot some matches finally without driving to far. I have waiting for this for 5 years actually about 30, looking forward to having some fun.

It is 42 minutes from my house to the range.. Gotta buy more Bergers now.

from the maps I saw they got the 1000 yard range set up so you will be shooting due north with the sun behind you,,I am gonna try and shoot whatever they decide to have,,hopefully 600-1000 yard benchrest ,FClass, or even a sling if need be,,

Doesn't the range have be built before we go shooting on it? And Hold Matches?

we rode down last week and they had 2 dozers running for the 1000 yard range and people were already shooting shotguns and pistols,,they said it just depended on the weather when they would be finished,,

Matt knows what he is doing and he's a top sling shooter himself, so I think we can count on whatever he does there, it will be first rate. There is substantial financial backing as well, so that doesn't seem to be a concern. Its about a 2 Hr drive from where I live, so I'm really looking forward to it sometime this year. ORSA is my home range only 30 minutes away, and the other two ranges I shoot matches at are each more like 3 Hr's away, so this will be perfect for shooters near Knoxville, Nashville or Northern, Georgia area. Matt has been shooting at the ORSA matches and giving us regular updates at our matches last year.

I live about an hour 15 minutes northwest between Gainesboro and Carthage,,I am really hoping the 600 yard benchrest will be a once a month deal,,

Any idea what match fees will be for 600 & 1000 yard?

No word yet on fees. I'm hoping they follow the trend of Oak Ridge, Tullahoma, River Bend, and Polk County and land closer to $25 for one day events (60 shots for record). Friends and I have been boycotting F-Class matches at Talladega because we feel $50 is too high, especially given the history of problems with their electronic targets, disrespectful treatment of shooters, and false claims of NRA Approved events.

I'm not saying we'd never attend a match at Dead Zero if they price it at $50, but we'd probably wait until 2019 or 2020 after they have a year or two of experience, and we get reliable reports on how things are being run and how well the electronic targets systems are working. With so many options to shoot in that area for close to or less than $25, I don't see paying $50. Of course, sanctioned matches in Dec-March would be more appealing at $50 because other options are limited in the colder months.

Polk County Gun Club, North Carolina

Lots of states have a Polk county, so you may have been thinking TN. Sorry for any confusion. I do some consulting work in N GA, so I've scoped out most of the F-Class opportunities within 4 hours or so, which includes most of the ranges in N GA, N AL, E TN, W NC, and W SC.

Thanks, That's exactly where I was thinking. They have a real nice sporting clays in Polk County TN. Was wondering if they had done something else up there. lol .
