Have four Surgeon DBMs, three PTG DBMs, and one Defiance (Black Ops) DBM.
The only reason I have the PTG ones are they are one of few who makes DBM for a Rem Seven action.
The quality of the other two are far superior, with better finish and nice radius on all the edges.
The ambi release of the Surgeon is in the right spot, and the Defiance DBM has a 'push button' that is unobtrusively located & very handy to use.
Both also offer good protection for the magazine, and a front 'wall' for use as a contact point for positional shooting.
On a straight hunting rig, I think an APA would be a very nice unit to run, especially if trying to maintain a more 'traditional' look. Very slick & well designed!
I got a GREAT combo deal on my Defiance LA DBM when I got my action direct from them. Dunno if they still have any available for SA??? Google search for "Black Ops DBM", that's the one I have

As you can see, its very 'Surgeon-esque' in ergos, with the exception of the protected mag release button. Also, notice there's a small spring loaded mechanism at the rear of the magwell that keeps a slight amount of tension on the magazine to keep it from 'rattling'. Pretty cool little feature...
Surgeon DBM, for reference...
