Day 1 - CA Sac Valley Regional Palma - March Madness

California does have a large population but the majority are not into guns as evidenced by 65% of the voters mandating ammo restrictions which require face-to-face purchasing (eliminating online ordering) as well as requiring an upcoming background check and license to purchase ammo.

The last state/regional matches have all been plagued with possible rain, making turnout a bit on the light side.

CA is also a rather large state, making it hard, challenging or financially tough to travel 400-500 miles (if you live in southern CA) to shoot a 2-day match. There are quite a few southern CA shooters and they are normally seen at the Coalinga matches, which is closer by a couple hours for them.

Many Nevada residents who travel to the matches on a regular basis were snowed in due to a single highway being their only way of getting to the range and that highway was closed for a couple days.

I have noticed T/R shooters on the lighter side over the last couple years though.

That is very true. The first month Iworked out there I thought to my self.. OH boy I am going to go shoot this and that and then there.. Only to get out my MapQuest to find out Sac Valley was over an 8 hour drive one way. Colinga Which I went to twice was 6 hours one way. Burbank and Camp Pendelton where with in Normal Driving distances.... Big dam state.

Flew in from Chicago for the practice and matches. Thanks to Peter, Jim, and Randi for the well run matches and lunches. Enjoyed talking to Barb, Jerry Tierney's widow. Thanked her for Jerry's help with 223rem and 308win data in the past . Well worth the trip to see and learn from Don Crigler and John Smith.

Yesterday we had light mist a few times and then for the last two rounds the wind came up and it rained pretty hard. Rough round for those guys!

Today was beautiful. Mostly sunshine with some clouds coming through. Light wind but enough to keep you on your toes. Unless your Pete White who only drops 1 point a day.

Great shooting Pete for the Open win!
Niklas pulled an underdog coming from behind yesterday and winning TR.
Congrats to both of you!

Bryan Sumoba took second in open overall and I took 3rd.

Lee Davis was Second in TR with an incredible performance with his 223.
Bill Tusch from San Diego was 3rd.

I don't have the sling scores, But Jim O'Connel had an insane X count today. Something like 58 or 59!! Hopefully someone will chime in with those results.
