Dasher velocity and barrel life.

Hi

I am currently shooting a 6mmDasher, and I have a couple of questions.

My rifle is a Panda with a 28" barrel, I am shooting 107MK's and using 33 grains of RL-15.

What sort of velocity should I expect? I have been told that a Dasher will reach around the 2950fps mark, and that is pushing them. I am curious to peoples opinions on that.

Also, you guys that are using the dashers, how long is a barrel lasting for.

I really like the Dasher as a round, but the 6X47L is starting to sound like a better idea. What are you thoughts on that? Expected barrel life of a 6X47L?

Cheers

I am getting 3050-3070 using 33.0 grains RL-15 and the 107SMK from my 31" Broughton 5C Dasher. I have about 1700 rounds through it, and it is still shooting great. The throat has moved out about 0.075" from new. Borescope tells me that I'll get some more before a set-back is called for.

Cheers,

We have shot 9 to 10 thousand rounds through the Dasher. The MV used was 3050 fps with Sierra 107s and the MV was 2950/3000 fps using the DTAC 115s. The first barrel was replaced at 3500 rounds.

Thanks Guys

This is the info I need. 3500 rounds sound excellent!

What load were you using for the 3050fps with the 107's and barrel length?

Keep it coming. The more info I can get the better. I know there is many Dasher shooters out there!

Cheers

The 6mmDasher and the 6mmBRX are pretty much in the same class. The shoulders being the main difference. John Skowron,John708) is shooting the 6mmBRX and his first rifle crossed the 3000 rounds barrier last week. He shot a 10 shot test group at 100 yards and it was about .450. His groups have opened up a little but are still acceptable. He is also shooting a 32" Broughton 1:8 5C. Tim North told me if he is lucky he might get 4000 rounds out of this barrel. John found the accuracy node for Bergers to be in the 3050 to 3070 fps. He is now shooting his second 6mmBRX rifle with a 31" 1:8 5C barrel. It is taking 1.5 more grains of powder to achieve the same velocities as the first barrel.

Don't get too excited thinking that you will definately get 3500 rds from a dasher. I know others who shoot some form of 6br improved who get between 2000-2500 rds of slow fire long range shooting before accuracy drops quickly. I don't doubt that someone gets 3500 rds, but I am not sure that that's the norm. Go to long-range.com or benchrest.com and search there.
That may shed more light on your question.

My Dasher is based on a 30" Kreiger. Velocity is 3030 to 3070 fps using 33.0 to 33.3 grains of Reloader 15. Started out using AR2208,Varget) but the RL15 seems to deliver more consistent groups. I haved tried loads from 31.5 to 33.5 of RL15 and they all shot well @ 100 yds. I like this cartridge so much that I have "retired" my 6.5 Swede and had two more new barrels chambered up as Dashers to have on hand.

PS Are you the "Fly" shooter that hails Albury?

Bob.. yes it is Fly shooter from Albury.

I have heard all various accounts that the Dasher can not deliver the 3050fps as people say. I do not believe they are right, and were pretty happy with mine at right around the 3025fps mark. Also, have been told that barrel life was short.. but did not beleive that either. 2000-2500 is what I would expect.

The posts people have put down clearly show that the Dasher does perform over the 3000pfs mark with various users.

That is what I wanted to clear up!

I am very happy with my Dasher, and after finding the results, I have no reason to rechamber that rifle to anything but the Dasher, although I am having a 6BRDX built that should be very close to the Dasher performance with a longer neck. It will fall around 50fps behind the Dasher at a quick glance.

The people who shooter the Dasher know how well it performs at the 500m range, and really, the less people that shoot it against me the better. I'd be more worried about another Dasher than a heavy 300WM rifle at 500m!!

Put 33 grain of RL-15 into a Dahser case, 107MK's, light touch of the lands and away you go! Got to like that!

Cheers

New news from John708 about his 6BRX #1 with just over 3000 rounds. The barrel throat and groups have just opened up within the last twenty rounds. I am sure he will post an update on his thread.
