Dasher and Dtacs?

I ordered a Criterion 8 twist 28 inch barrel and just a can get 500 ct box of dtacs for a great price. I want to buy these bullets before they are gone. Has anyone had luck with the Dasher and the DTAC? I have been searching a lot and cannot find conclusive posts on velocity or any numbers. I found one archived article that a guy took a prairie dog at 1,014 yards with the Dasher and the DTAC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, barrel will be used for 600-1000 Fclass as well as some plinking/prairie dog/steel shooting.

A 1-8 twist will work with a Bartlein but it's hit or miss with an other brand. check and see if is7.9-8.0 should work and if it's over it may not. They shoot very well in a dasher with a long free bore....... jim

I have tested the DTAC's in Savage Dasher 108 freebore, Varget powder, 1x8 Krieger 30" bbl. Achieved average velocity of 2862, sd 9, es 16. Five shot group at 200 yds was .690.
I am going to try some RL 15 next on Jim's (johri1) suggestion. Going to Blakely,GA in Jan to try them at 1000yds F open.

Thanks for the info. I would imagine you should net better velocity with the Rl-15. If 2950 or so if achievable I think these could be worth while out of a Dasher.

birdog invited me to ride with him to Hawks Ridge in 2009 for their last IBS event where Joel Pendergraft set the new group World Record. I was shooting a Krieger 8t smithed by Dwight Scott that made Lt Class and I used the 115 Tubb at 2920 fps 32.7 gr N203 CCI 450s to win the Lt Gun Score out of 60 competitors. Ahh yes it was my first ever 1000 yd event!!! Those old men were heckling me really bad as they didn`t think my Dasher had enough mojo to win. I guess I showed them!!

birdog was watching me through the spotter and I`ll never forget during my sighters he said "you`re digging a hole" meaning I was shooting to the same spot for multiple sighters!

Dasher and DTAC brings back fond memories!!

Your free bore is way too short, mine is .155. I ran around 2930 ave. with a 30"........ jim

Jim, I will let you know what I get with the RL15.....

8 twist works fine in my experience. 2900+ FPS
I use RL-15 and run 2925 to 2950 fps.
I usually run the bare bullets but these
coated bullets show promise. Tubb ships
the DTAC's pointed which is a plus.
Here is my first group with the Boron Nitrite coated
bullets. Getting the scope zeroed.

My Brux, Bartlein, Krieger, and Shilen all work with the 8 twist.

Birdog; what length freebore are you using? Nice shooting. Care to share the powder weight?

RL-15 at 33.3gr bare or 33.8 coated.
My gunsmith has a reamer for 107's but
he uses a throater to lengthen the freebore.
The boattail of the 115 is seated just above
the shoulder - neck junction.
I would say the freebore is at least 0.150+
I sent him a case with the bullet seated
the where I wanted it and he matched it.

I used RL-15 with the DTAC 115's With 33- 33.5 gr. jumped .014 and a cci 450. trimmed and pointed. the best at 1000 was 2.8 and a bunch of 3's,they really work good out a Brux HV. with a 7.83 twist, ES. was 3-6 not too shabby....... jim

I can't believe your shooting that much Re15 with a 115gr bullet. I shot 108's more than anything the whole time I shot the Dasher and never loaded over 31gr in any barrel I shot in a match.

To shoot and win with the loads i use with DTAC 115's, free bore is the key that everybody seems to pass over. You need a free bore of .135- .155,i used the .155 with the Berger 105H and it works. I don't see an advantage to the shorter free bore and these long bullets, except to raise the pressure levels, and reduced accuracy because the heel of the boat tail is in the case..... jim

My Dasher reamer set up strictly for the 115 Tubb had a .203" FB. I still hit pressure when loading over 32.7 gr N203-B.

I know others use much more with no ill effects, just the luck of the draw on barrel temprament.

I just set this barrel back, and plan on trying the Hybrids.
