Dangerous varmint: Brown Recluse Spiders

I got nailed by one last weekend. Wow it seriously hurts. As a bonus, the surrounding flesh slowly rots away. Doctor said there's not much that can be done once the venom has been in for a few hours. So basically you get to wait and see how much of you body turns into zombie guts.

Be careful. If you're anywhere that might harbor these nasty critters, be sure to shake out any clothing before putting it on. You don't want to get bitten. Believe me.

Been there, in the 1970's, put my pants on and apparently one was lurking, or so the doctor said. At first I thought it was a boil. Then the flesh around it rotted away, nasty. The eraser on an old #2 lead pencil could fit with ease into the hole that was left after all was said and done.

One got my wife on the ankle about 5 years ago. She was left with a permanent red/blue/brown mark on her ankle about 2" across. That thing looked ugly.

They killed a guy asleep by himself in an upper MI hunting cabin. When people found him they had him encased in web and were feeding on him.

Yep. Had one get me on the waistband. Thought it was a chigger bite and popped it. Then it got infected and ugly. The Dr. did offer to remove the necrotic flesh for me. The tool looked like a melon baller so I passed!

Should have saved that for 01 April. Sad thing is some will swallow it.

A friend got bit on the thigh when he pulled on his pants, but they did not ID the spider. The necrosis left a quarter size wound that would not heal. His dad was a prominent surgeon. One day the dad showed up and said he had been researching and had something to try. He laid a very thin square of pure gold leaf over the wound and covered it with a bandage. Within 48 hours the wound had almost completely healed. I knew the dad as well, as he was my physician when I was in college.

I also got bit in the 70 on the front of lower leg. Same as others, doc said nothing he could do. Every few years it flares up (I will spare you the details)
Amazing how such a tiny amount of venom can have an effect for so long.

always take a sharpie and draw a circle around the bite if it's suspicious, if it grows quick, go to doc bites can get 4 inches in dia, and leave a nasty hole

I thought you were in jail? A lady in Michigan died from the bite of one brown recluse--rare but it happened. You don't think if a person went to sleep in a cabin infested with them and enough of them bit you it could kill you? I don't wanna try it.

My understanding is it affects people differently.Much like poison ivy.I've been "hit" twice. The actual spot only got ,kinda nasty...

But was in deep doodoo on general health.Throw up,WHILST having the runs for a week to 10 days,on antibiotics.

Wouldn't wish it on anyone....well,maybe a cpl dzn politicians,haha.

We have brown recluse pretty bad in our home here in Arkansas. One day I was riding my motorcycle and felt something in my ear. It felt like water, I thought it had got in there when I showered. Anyway all day long I could feel it in there. That night in bed when I got still, I felt it moving and something crawled out of my ear. I mashed it with my finger and turned the light on. It was a brown recluse! No joke.

Interestingly....or not;

Both of mine were the result of dinking around, under a cpl of "book" (national register of historic) houses/buildings.

First was an 1800'sh,TJ attended church.The other was a late 1700's house.In retrospect,would've rather taken a rimfire bullet...just sayin.
