Dakotas PD trip July 2019

l first shot prairie dogs near Macintosh SD about 15 yrs ago.. Twas a great trip flying in to Bismarck ND from Minneapolis Mn. Then driving down to Macintosh on roads almost empty and by myself. l had heard about SD prairie dogs from Varmint Hunters Association Magazine... lt was almost July and HOT.. Being the curious type l googled the temp high and low for SD... All-time low was minus 58deg f and the record high 120deg... That's almost 180deg Spread between high and low... l've spend time in the deserts of SWA lrag/Afgh... l don't believe the temp spread is that much over there.. South Dakota is LOTS friendlier tho!!
yup it's hot there in SD & I've "heard about" the winters. Takes a hearty person to survive...how was the PD shooting?

Last May. Not so hot. :)

So can you drive to that Crow Buttes sign or do you have to hoof it?

nice! that rifle is in the Caldwell bag is a Cooper w an aftermarket pad... 220 Swift?
Crow Buttes is on HWY 85 between Belle Fourche SD & Bowman ND. You'd have to drive far to find more wild, beautiful country. Unless you headed further on HWY 85. :) S. Dakota is mighty populated-compared to N. Dakota.

couple pix. OR trail, names carved in Sandstone bluffs along the trail, Platte River WY.
Some graves nearby also.

I have driven by the Crow Buttes, I just did not realize there was a sign there. Thanks much for posting a photo of it. I will look for it this fall.

Yes, I trashed the factory pad getting it off so I could add lead to the butt, hence the after-market. It's caliber is the King of the Priaire -- .204.
