HOME FROM FANTASTIC PD TRIP

Exactly
I was thinking it might not be the best
I bought the barrels for heavies and long target work but when the prairie dog trip came up I went to work and discovered it worked great. I was only pushing them to around 3270 but Urban Bradley is running 50g Sierra at 3800 in an 8 twist so looks like jackets hold up fine I am never looking back since I discovered all this . Best of both worlds looks like.

Someone asked how many rounds we shot. Well my first trip I was crazy and blasted over 1000 rounds in two days so I was very careful this trip to range dog shoot dog and take my time. I was urged by the more experienced guys in our group to do that. So I shot about 550 plus but made them count. It was more rewarding than the blasting away.
We sure learned a lot from the pros that took us out. I can say get the first trip under your belt however you can and just know every day after will get better and better as you learn and refine your deal
I think it is a must to have rangefinder you can depend on and it is way easier to use rangefinder binoculars—it is so much easier
Then have a good dope chart. One note--I had a great 100 yd zero and I ran all the info through JBM ballistics using altitude weather info etc for where we would be shooting--I was So proud of my dope chart--got there and my pals looked at it and said every 50 yards??? We do ours every in 10 yard increments--LOL--oh well like I said I am learning-- You get those elements then it is up to your wind reading. Or do like me watch dirt fly—walk it in and don’t be ashamed about it. Fun is the goal
Yeah - once you get way out there, those little pills start dropping pretty quick past 500. I use 1/8 MOA clicks and dope for 25 yard intervals past 400. That looked like it was a great hunt with good guys - those are the best. I'm already prepping for my next out of state hunt where we can get as many as 1,000 shots per day on squirrels. I'm planning on five or six days this trip - so the truck is going to be dragging..... It is hard to stop shooting the close ones to focus on the distant ones when there are that many. The local squirrels are still out so I'll get in several tune-up trips. It IS hard waiting for the next hatch.

We got lucky highs were 82 ish lows were upper 50's--wind was WY style--plenty of it but we were able to try long shots early in the day before wind picked up to bad We had patchy storms but no big issue at all--We went to SD mid July last year--never doing that again--it was 111 when we got out of the truck--so the Labor Day time frame looks to be about right

We spent three days in southern Colorado in June. Shot 221 fb,222,223,222mag,22/250,6br, and 243! Total of a little over 1600 rds with 80pct + hit ratio! Can't wait to go back. Perfect cool weather (I'm from Central Texas so 90 was nice) not to much wind, and LOTS of dogs! Sounds like you have it going on too! I know the 223 is perfect, but try a 6br with 65-75 gr bullets. It's almost like cheating
