CZ457 MTR

I got my MTR this week these are my initial impressions. Stock fits a adult like a glove. The barrel has no tooling marks at all. After adjusting the trigger and 150rds the trigger has no creep and breaks clean under 16oz. Its headspace is at .038 super tight. I mounted the T36 with a BScar 25moa mount. It has shoot a .205 5 shot group with Eley Match and .237 5 shot group with Lapua Center X.
I can't post pics from my phone any tips?

Here's the newest acquisition.... CZ 457 Varmint MTR , Area 419 30 MOA rail and a NF Competition Fixed 42X44 scope. Lightened the trigger down to 1-1.5 lbs and shot my first NRA Smallbore Prone match with Lapua Midas+. Sighted in at 100yds and no ammo testing yet. Managed second place with a 1196-73X! She's a shooter!

I don't have a accurate scale, if you want number I can weigh it next time I'm at the range. Its a touch heavier than a Anshutz. It holds very nicely offhand.

Thanks. Its listed at 7.4 ish I believe. I was just wondering if it might pull double duty for SB Silhouette and Small Bore Fclass.

CZ 457 MTR weighs 8 lbs 5 oz without scope or rail. NF scope weighs 20.7 oz and the rail is aluminum ....maybe 5-7 oz

Here's a shot of my MTR & American together, both with BScar 25 MOA scope rails. I got the American back in early Feb, and weather was awful all month for outdoor shooting. What little shooting I did do wasn't pleasing - most of the 50yd groups I shot with it were 2+ MOA. When I finally did find a MTR, it shot fine right out of the box (well, not quite - I did adjust the trigger to just under 1lb before taking it out). Have been pretty pleased with the MTR from 50-210yds so far. At some point, I may pull the bbl to thread the muzzle, and will cut a fresh 11* crown when I do. I did get out my butane torch and heat up the MTR's bolt knob, then wrapped some leather belting around it, grabbing the knob with water pump pliers and the knob came right off. Wanted to try an Area 419 knob, but they were out of stock/backordered, so I chucked-up a piece of 1" 6061 aluminum rod and turned my own extended/oversized knob, all since I shot the attached photo.

I did cut a new 11* crown on the American's bbl, and it helped accuracy - a little. After reading up & asking a few questions on aftermarket bbls for the 455/457 (they have breech design & dimensions cut to the same specs), I finally decided to buy a Shilen select match ratchet rifled #5 blank for the American. I parted-off the shank, then turned the radiused transition section down to .924", which resulted in a 3" shank that blended into the straight taper section of the blank; parting off an inch at the muzzle resulted in a finished length of 23.5", which weighed a little more than 1/2lb more than the OEM bbl. After cutting the extractor grooves, I glued the bbl into the action with Loctite #609, and it shot fine during the initial 60+rds I've had time to put through it. If the rain has truly stopped, I'll try to take it out later this afternoon to put more rounds downrange with it to confirm (or not) how well it was shooting last time. It looked good enough during that initial range session that I've been thinking about getting another Shilen for the MTR, even though that rifle's OEM bbl has been shooting pretty darned good to date....

I do care about looks, and so a lot of other 455 owners. That pot metal high-school shop class trigger guard should never have gone on the gun.

"the bottom metal is now sculpted and sleek, metalwork is finished in nitride to give it the look of a quality blue with the corrosion resistance of stainless"

CZ heard the complaints, and looks to be working the issue. Be nice if the 457 guard fits the 455, and they don't charge the $135 DIP does.

Very nice, looks like it has a little tiger striping too. I hope mine looks as good as yours. I should have it this week, can't wait!

Be interested to see how the lija does..

OK, Gabe -- here are some numbers for you: The first day out, temps were around 50 deg. F, winds light & variable. I was ammo testing to see which brand the Lilja preferred. Overall, the best was Lapua Center-X, though 2 of the best groups were shot with Federal Ultramatch. Here are some numbers for 5-shot groups at 50 yds - CX: .253, .202 and .242" Ultramatch .157 and .256"

When my shooting buddy & I finished ammo testing (we also tried Eley Match, but both CX and UM outperformed it. I was both surprised and relieved since I usually find my guns prefer the pricier Eley.) We started farting around shooting staples out of our targets, etc., when I decided to try shooting an IBS 50-yd BR target just for the helluvit. I ran out of ammo at 9 bulls so fired a 237/240 with 7 x's. Later, in 2 club matches, I shot a 248/11x and then 249/5x. The latter was in fairly windy conditions, about 15 mph. Don't remember what the wind in thefirst was.

By comparison, in 2 earlier matches with the original CZ barrel I shot a 242/9x and a 243/5x. As I recall, winds were only about 3-5 mph for these matches.

Hope you find this info useful.

Thanks!!
I found the Fed to perform like your findings.
I tried the Agulia 40gr subs, Fiocchi 38gr subs. , Eley black box.
Eley& Agulia shot .129 & .158 @ 50yds

temps where 64* winds 2mph/nw
