CZ actions?

I'm looking at a custom .308 with a Hart barrel and a CZ 550 action...any insights regarding CZ actions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks much!

Triggers..........No good aftermarket triggers are available. Great hunting rifles, but not something I'd build a precision target gun on.

A nice round bottom receiver for ease of bedding and availability of good aftermarket parts, triggers, scope bases, barrels etc)is what you want for custom target rifle.......

CZ makes a solid action. It IS a Mauser action so barrel installation is a little more expensive with the extra machining required for the extractor. There are aftermarket triggers available, just no Jewells and the like. CZ actions do come with a single set trigger which is fairly nice, even nicer if a smith who actually understands the triggers polishes it up. The scope mount is milled into the receiver which limits rings choices although there are rails available from some of the tactical suppliers in 20 minute slope.

Nope, won't be a "bench rest" gun, but it would be the basis for a fine tactical style of rifle, or F/TR. The production clearances required by a field use design rifle just aren't as tight as a custom target action. But if the smith is competent you should be able to get at least 90% of the accuracy compared to a custom actioned rifle in .308. Just remember, the barrel and the chambering count for more than the rest of the components combined.

As far as bedding the action goes, although a bit more difficult to bed, a flat bottom action with an integral recoil lug gives more bedding surface which makes for a more durable and stable bedding job. On of the reasons the Stolle actions from Kelblys are flat bottomed with an integral lug. Round actions with sandwiched recoul lugs are easier to machine and thus less expensive to produce which is the PRIMARY reason they were deveoped in the first place. They are not better by design.

Thanks for the benefit of your insights!
I've been looking around for a starter 600 yd. rifle, and opted to go with a .308 for economy, barrel life, a well known caliber, with readily available components.
Given the cost of some of the options, I'll probably buy either a used tactical or custom, one of which had been built around a CZ 550 action...), or a new Savage F/TR, so I can afford a decent scope & probably a nice, big spotter!
The problem is that there's so many potential 'unknowns' as to whether the $$ spent will actually produce an accurate combination.
Guess I'll find out the hard way!

A new Savage F/TR in .308 probably would be your best bet. Buying used accuracy rifles can be a crapshoot at times. While there are great deals out there on the used market there are also some rifles that are for sale for a reason. For instance a shot out throat or one that just won't shoot seemingly no matter what was done to try to correct it. A gamble unless you really know the rifle and its previous owner.

As Dirty Harry said - "Do ya feel lucky?" ;)

I have a New in the box Charles Daly "Mauser" action I will sell. Let me know if you are interested.

You’ll need to feed a CZ out of the magazine. Because the extractor claw can not be altered to single feed reliably like a Winchester or some of the Mausers there’s no way to consistently single feed the things. The 308 Kevlar I had was able to just reach the lands with a 167g Lapua in the clip. But the clip was too short for 155g Lapuas to touch. That’s all I ever tried in it. You can sorta get a feel for holding the case down while you slide the bolt forward enough for the case to come up under the claw. But 2 out of the near 50 times I tried that, I had to remove the bolt and push a live round out of the chamber because the case came up in front of the claw instead of behind it. That’s something you don’t want to do while you’re in a match.
