cz 9 twist barrel in 223 - successful heavier bullets?

From experience, what are the more successful heavier bullets in the cz 223 9 twist barrelled rifle? I ask this question because there seem to be plenty of these rifles with the 9 twist barrel around but people seem to be reporting shooting light weight bullets in them. But I'm interested in the heavier ones.

rupert: With a 9 twist,, I've got numerous), you're approaching the limit at 69 to 70 gr. bullet weight. Some barrels slightly less, some slightly more, main reason being not all barrels are exactly the twist as advertised. A 1-9 may actually be 1-9.25 or 1-8.75, etc. Stabilizing them would also be dependent on velocity: a lot of factors. My 1-9s' do an outstanding job with just about any high quality bullet weight from 50 to 69 gr. Slightly more, or less, and it becomes "maybe". The Hornady 68 gr. HPBT and Sierra 69 gr. HPBT have always been two of my favorites.

I have a 26" 1/9 twist Winchester that really shoots Hornady 75's. 23.5 grains of Varget or Re-15. I've never seen a 1/9 not shoot a 68/69 grain bullet. In fact 1/9 may be just about ideal for that bullet weight. Like the previous poster mentioned, all bets are off when it comes to the 75/77 grain bullets. Some will shoot them very well and others not at all.

Try 24.7 TAC w/69gr Sierra BT's been my go to load with 3 different 223's in 9 twist. Burns clean and meters like poop thru a goose

You should be good with the Hornady 75 gr HPBT, but the A-Max probably won't work. The determining factor for stability is bullet length, not weight; that's why the HPBT will work, but the A-Max likely won't. The Sierra 77 gr HPBT should also work, but I believe the Hornady is a better bullet. I shoot the Hornady bullets in NRA Highpower and Long Range competition, and have found them to be very good and consistent. Of course, the real test is what works best in your rifle, which can only be determined by testing.

my savage LRPV 223 with a 9" twist shoots the 75gr A-Max very, very well...

A true 1:9 twist will shoot 75-77 gr bullets like a dream.
I've used the 75 gr A-Max at 900 yards with very good results.

I have the CZ in laminated varmint and I love it. 1-9 twist, just like yours. Second most accurate factory gun I own. Mine happily shoots everything from 40gr Vmax to 69gr SMK with no issue. 300 yard groups you can cover with a quarter using CMP 69gr match ammo. Shoots Minute of Prairie Dog out to 550 yards with 55gr Nosler BT - haven't tried it farther.

I have not worked up a 69gr hand load for this gun yet, but would likely start with Varget or BL-C2, somewhere around 25 gr.

My 1x9 rem PSS and a 1x9 colt shoots 75 Hornady bthp very well. The A-max does not key hole but shoots only so-so. The 77 sierra also shoots well. The 69 smk is a great bullet but I like the hornady 75 bthp better.

I have a savage 26" 1in9, shoots berger 70 vld's over 23grs of varget under .5 all day. tried 52 & 53 grs, doesn't like em' much
