CZ 527 Hornet Extractor Cut How To ?

Building a 22 Hornet on a CZ action that I purchased a couple years back. The only hurdle I haven't come up with a solution for is the extractor cut. I have a couple of factory CZ Hornets and it looks to me like they milled the extractor cut with an end mill. I don't have a mill. I have lots of files, dremels, a lathe and a chainsaw but haven't come up with a plan of attack that I like. The barrel is getting close to ready to screw on to the action.

Played with a barrel stub and a dremel with a cutting disc and it will do the job but I'd rather not go with "crude but effective". Any ideas, suggestions or even a picture of a CZ Hornet barrel unmounted showing the breech end/slot?

Thanks in advance

Wheres your old barrel?
Without a mill its tough to do extractor cuts unless you dremel them on a compound like i do rimfires. Heres an idea on the tool you need.

Aren't milling attachments made for small lathes, anymore? Where the cutter (endmill) is held in the collet or chuck and the 'work' is held in a vise attached to the tool post on the cross slide. A simple solution for one that doesn't need a full sized vertical mill and doesn't do any 'heavy milling'.

I bought 2 rifles and an action direct from CZ while I worked briefly for Bushnell. Got an industry related discount I couldn't pass up. Wanted an action to build a heavy Hornet for the prairie dog towns. The grinder setup would work maybe. I have an AXA tool post. I've seen a similar, smaller version that holds a Dremel. I would have to work near the tail stock, my Atlas (12x40) spindle is too small to put the barrel through.

Call CZ and see if they have any parts left or maybe one of the guys in the shop rat holed them rather than toss them in the trash when they DQ’d the 527. I know a couple of guys in the shop and they swapped a fair number of extractors on the 22H/17HH.

You can still find the original milling attachment for this lathe but they are proud of them. I've never bought a set of collets yet either. So for one slot .060 deep and yay wide I don't really want to dump $400 + into it right now. But I would no doubt find other uses for the tooling.

Huh. I thought I invented that. Harbor Freight electric die grinder and some crappy TIG welding.

I guess it require an investment in tools and tooling to "do your own work", doesn't it?

Well after a huge investment of $1.00 for a new Dremel cutting bit at a barn sale the rifle is complete.
I made a Dremel tool holder out of a slab of aluminum I had, mounted it up and started cutting. It was trial and error but I got it done. Shot it yesterday, cleaning every 3 shots. This was PPU factory ammo. Can't wait to start the search for the powder/bullet combo for the upcoming trip to Montana.

Who says it has to be an "original" milling attachment? There are several different designs out there. And, they don't cost what an "original' would. Would be even lower cost to make one. My radius attachment is shop made, and it works just fine for convex or concave. It took my time and materials, but was much lower cost than a commercial made.
