CZ 457 MTR Testing 7/15/2021

"Accipere non casus-Virga Bis"
Yesterday was a GREAT day to get out back to my range and finally test my CZ 457 MTR and a couple of other rifles, with a few different brands of various .22 rimfire ammunition:

Left to right:
CZ 457 MTR
CZ 457 LUX
CZ 455 FS
Ruger 77/22
I mainly wanted to see which brand of .22 rimfire the CZ 457 MTR, sorta preferred. I start out shooting at 45 yards, and if the ammunition proves to do well, only then will I go out further to 75 yards, or maybe 100 yards. I'm shooting through a path I cut through timber so don't worry too much about wind being a factor:

I also wanted to test actual velocity with my chronograph rather than rely on box or advertised .22 rimfire velocity as found in barrel lengths of 20 to 27 inches in length, as in the CZ 457 LUX with the 27-inch barrel:

Here are a couple of targets shot from my CZ 457 MTR, with RWS R100 (Left) and then ELEY Target (Right) at 45 yards, 5 round groups:

Interesting to note, concerning the CZ 457 MTR, for those who don't yet own one. When chambering a round in these rifles, the bolt turn down will feel a bit stiff to the unaware. Here's why:

Notice the engraving marks from the tapered leade in the first driving band of these bullets? That's just one of the great features involved with these rifles that makes them so dang accurate. And, this rifle has not had any pillar bedding or addition trigger pull adjustment done on my part, as yet!

This stuff is way too much fun with one's cloths still on, and especially now with all the dang mosquitos lookin' for a place to stick their beaks.

How do you like that MTR stock? I have the ProVarmint that came with mine.....been eyeing a used MTR stock love that palm swell/vertical so comfy looking if it feels like the one on a friend's Anschutz.

I'm getting used to the grip area. It sorta forces me to relax my paw and just use my trigger finger. Overall, I really like this rifle.

I have customers who brag about their "tack-driver" .22 rifles , so I came up with this target:

Any and all of those folks can shoot their .22 rifles here whenever they like. So, I'll staple one of these targets to my 35 meter backstop and let 'em have at it. The target above was shot a few days ago with my CZ 457 MTR and RWS R100 .22, 40 grain ammunition. I had a few "awsh!ts", but was otherwise quite happy.
If anyone would like to have a copy of this target let me know and I'll post a blank one.

Keep in mind that the factory MTR stock has pillars in it. They aren’t metal, but they are there. I believe they’re a fibre or glass reinforced plastic.

Haven't even looked as yet to see what you mention. One thing I did notice, was how the chambered rounds are engraved by the leade:

I haven't even messed with the trigger pull weight as yet, If the pillars that are in there now and are not aluminum, they soon will be.

Here's the target used:

I print these out on the same tag-board paper that the NRA targets are printed on. Get those off ebay in 100 count packs for not a lot of $$$.
I find it best to copy and save the picture to one of your albums and then print from there. The orange dots are the same diameter as an actual thumb tack.

This is sad info to say the least. I had communicated with this member some time ago on another site. He was very talented and spoke his mind from experience and knowledge. My best to his family and friends.
