Cz 457 lilja barrel info

My local Tactical rimfire club has quite a few CZs. I have a standard MTR barrel, there are a few more MTRs, a few Proof SS, a few Lothar, and there was a guy with a Lilja but he just sold it and bought a Vudoo.

At least for the NRL22/PRS22 side of things I see a benefit with a larger / heavier profile for rifle balance on barricades. I don’t however see much accuracy benefit inside 200yds. My MTR at the last match took 5rds to zero: 3 under 1/2” at 50yds, 1 @ POA at 100yds, and 1@ POA at 197yds. The 197yd shot was at a rock about the size of a tennis ball and the impact was near center. This is very typical of my barrel, provided I clean the snot out of it after every match. It does not like to shoot dirty, at all.

I don’t think the high end barrels shoot any worse, and may even agg better, but I don’t see enough difference over the MTR barrels’ accuracy to justify the $$$ for myself.

Let us know how his Vudoo works out.

Anyone running one on there cz that can give me a review on one thanks.
How does yours shoot with the factory barrel? How well do you shoot? Just my personal opinion, but the targets I see from @ROBARRC50 are exceptional (kind of like the figure in his stock). I would be very surprised to see a Lilja match his accuracy with a factory.

My personal experience with Lilja rimfire is:
- CZ 455 with the sporter weight barrel on it
- CZ 455 with a 17 HMR barrel on it, and it seems to be near the end of life. But it has consistently outshot the factory barrel (which was a disaster) a 1717D HB Annie, and my Cooper LV 57M.
- CZ 457 with a 17 HM2 barrel on it. But I've just started break-in, so too early to tell. Showed promise on the first 10 shots.

Here is some initial accuracy on my MTR at 100m

Like I said. It shoots pretty good. I have let other people shoot it to just to make sure. I just have trouble shooting good aggs. It seems to throw a lot of flyers. And I really don’t think it’s the ammo

Thanks for the kind words and nice shooting. I like seeing the big picture multiple groups on same target.

There's a guy on YouTube, I think the channel is called pursuit of accuracy who runs one and seems to have good results with it. Also interested in hearing more feedback.

I watched most of this gentleman's videos. He is pretty darn good with his. One thing he pays a lot of attention to is the headspace. He shoots only Eley Match in that barrel and has the headspace shimmed at .040". That is pretty tight. Watch the video where he installs that barrel on his VPT.

I just installed a Lothar barrel on my 455. I had to order shims since I couldn't close the bolt. I measured headspace with the Lothar barrel no shims at .039". I talked with Carson at Lilja (knowing they offered the shims) about my measurements and he was super helpful. He went over my numbers to make sure I was correct and then confirmed their shim kit would fix it. This even though it was not his barrel. Good customer service. Anyways I used a single .004" shim to give me .043" headspace. Worked great. I shot some SK Match and some SK Plus and it shows some promise with both. I had a few rounds of Eley Target with me and while it grouped well, it failed to extract about every other round. I could feel more resistance on the bolt when trying to chamber the Eley. I am going to remove the barrel and check the extractor grooves and maybe file those a shade deeper.

I have the same barrel and have extraction issues with some eley. Sk/lapua extract better and shoot better so far.

A lot of the guys at my club are moving to Vudoo / RimX platforms. I’ve shot them quite a bit, myself and they are definitely a step up from the Tikka T1x and CZ 457. But at 3-4x the $$$, they should be.

Biggest benefits are the R700 trigger options, Bolt close smoothness, Chassis options. In that order.

My CZ has never jammed though... can’t say that about many Vudoo / Bergara / RimX rifles. The RimX does solve that with their adjustable mag catch, so any issue there would be on the assembler of the rifle.

I see a lot of CZ's at matches
MTR's that are well tuned do great--I have seen a lot of fellow shooters try aftermarket barrels and seems by far that the Mullerworks lead the field. These guys are all shooting bench rest mostly at 50 yds.

I really agree with previous post about longer heavy barrels being better balanced for PRS style shooting

I have been shooting MTR's for a few years and have 5 in the stable which includes friends rifles I help set up and maintain with two being mine. It takes a lot of experience to get them tuned in factory trim and to keep them happy--one month we can win 3 in a row then same rifle will seem to let us down. Figuring out what that actually entails either shooter, ammo, weather, stock torque that day, cleaning regimen, etc is The Challenge. It can be a see saw and keep you off balance and then I can get on a hot streak and hammer.
My opinion is many shooters run out and get an aftermarket barrel way before they have given the factory rig a fair test. I do believe that most any aftermarket barrel will be a nice shooter but do Not believe they are a mail order answer to All of the other dozen or more factors that are what Really matter when in competition.

All that being said-- if I get one-- it will be a Mullerworks chambered by a smith I think I can trust for rimfire and that decision will be based on results I have witnessed in person by shooters whose ability I am familiar with and admire. ( looking at You Mark Tolbert :) )

DISCLAIMER And maybe I see more Mullerworks as the local smiths like them? I honestly have not seen many Lilja here in my neighborhood--

You are shooting the factory barrel , correct ?

Check the crown and headspace ,,,,,,,when your shooting pay attention to where and how the gun stock forend is sitting , it may prefer to rest in a certain spot , then shot it in the same spot every time .

I have been thinking of acquiring a lilja barrel for a cz as well , Josh (?) pursuit of accuracy ( YouTube ) has used them and tested them a few times , I think they all shot great but he was also looking for balance /ergonomics
