So I have a CZ457 22LR with the At One Boyds stock--as sold by CZ It has been a good shooter and I have poured a lot of rounds through it in the last two years--It could be ON or OFF--was pretty picky about ammo--I would shoot a great score then next match do very average---so I was shooting the other day -it was going awful--and I had my finger on the barrel for a shot--Zing! It vibrated ! I was what??? --so I get to really looking --there is just so little contact area in that Boyds- no pillars just soft wood--and every time I took it out of the stock it might shoot great or terrible --it was Crazy sensitive to screw torque--and would not always repeat--SO I bedded that rifle over the weekend--Used Marinetex--Got her cleaned up Sunday evening--went to the range today and WOW!!!!! It was on Kill right out of the gate--Here is a photo of two groups at 50 yds--This is with two different lots of Center X --It was humming!!! I can't believe I waited so long to do this--If you have one get to it-- I swear it sounded like a dead blow hammer when it fired compared to how it was

I have a Savage Mark II in an at one, I too pillar bedded it and the accuracy and repeatability were good. But I did find just a tiny area in the fore end that was still touching the barrel and had to rework that area.
I have a CZ 457 MTR that was worked over by Area 419 in the stock wood. Its next up on my bench. I hope it shoots like yours does.

I made the pillars from steel roll pins from the hardware store--as the At One had so little wood and room for the surgery--they were small enough diameter --Petes Pillars were 1/2 needing about a 9/16ths hole so it seemed like a good idea--I got lucky for dang sure
I did bed under the barrel about one inch forward--I really think that helped a little

Good job. Been there, done that with Pete’s pillars but i used the slimline ones which are “only” 7/16” - which is still too big IMO for the 457 Boyd’s.

Great results, wondering if changing the torque made a difference and where you landed in the final torque values.

Your bedding job must be first rate. That's a tac driver for sure. Nice shooting on your part.

I set initial TQ at 24 in lbs and well...I guess I don't have to change that --no testing needed
I have bedded four other rifles--all center fire--My first was my worst as they say --but I am getting better at it as far as results--Looks? not so much --I can't match the beauty of others work at all but I am becoming more confident in getting better results. I will say I have not had one react so strongly to bedding--I think it was a situation where the Boyds for the CZ has such little contact area to start with --I feel sure there was nowhere to go but up--I have to be truthful I was Shocked at the results--It feels like a totally different rifle. But Thanks--I have loved this site--I have learned so much on here--what a great community --folks always are positive and willing to share experience--

I galss bedded both of my 457's, neither one will win any beauty contests. But groups improved on both afterwards, neither is picky about torques, and both are more tolerant of ammo used. One major flyer out of 80 rounds

My 457 American was purchased new 1/2019, and didn't shoot worth a darn. Stock was pretty nice, with some decent grain/figure, but the bbl was a POS. I eventually removed it (after adjusting the trigger down to a very nice & crisp 1lb 2oz, and putting over 500rds of SK Std+ through it. The muzzle crown was plain fugly, so I removed it, dialed the bore in on the 4-jaw and cut a nice precision 11* crown, which did help accuracy a little...but not enough to make me happy. So I wound up replacing it with a Shilen ratchet, and that improved accuracy a bunch. I haven't put that rifle on paper recently, but if memory serves, I bet a good pillar bedding job wouldn't hurt it one bit. I didn't do anything to the stock other than enlarge the bbl channel slightly to float the Shilen...
