CZ 452 safety issue?

Yesterday I took delivery of a 452 Scout that I intend as a gift for my grandchild about 8 years down the road. It checks out OK so far except for the safety. On this rifle it is so stiff that even I find it difficult to manipulate. There is no way a child will be able to use this rifle if the safety won't work smoothly. So; my question is can I work on this rifle to smooth up the safety? What say you? Thanks...

This has nothing to do with your safty issue but this spring I saw a 17hmr that bulged the barrel cracked the stock and blew the clip out, this was the secound one I know of that happened to a CZ 17hmr. I am A Cz fan to, not knocking them maybe there quality control is slipping I hope not. The CZ this happened to this spring was sent back they fixed the stock but wouldn't do anythig about the barrel because they said the bullet wasn't in the barrel >:( Lesson learned should have left the bullet in the barrel but we knocked it out. I know there wasn't anything lodged in the barrel like stuck in the mud because we were sitting in a pickup shooting sagerats out the windows. Just disappointed me I thought CZ would have done better.

The safety is somewhat antiquated IMO. With that said, my daughter's scout came with a single shot follower so I would hand her one bullet at a time until she was a bit more proficient with it. I know that doesn't help your safety concern but was one way I had worked around it.

I have 6 CZ rimfires now I think? Never had a problem with any of them other than having the time to shoot them all. :)

put some JB paste on the working surfaces of the safety and work it back and forth a couple hours watching tv or something and it will smooth out,,they are tight new,,they are made to last a couple lifetimes

I was taught to never trust a safety. To this day I never use it. My safety is to keep the chamber empty til I am ready to shoot. And check it often for a cartridge.. I am anal about it..

IMO safety's will get ya hurt just as fast as the "unloaded" weapon.

I ran into the same problem with my czmach2. The action wasn't closing all the way because the bolt handle was against the stock. I shimmed the action up a tiny bit with nylon washers, works perfectly

Disassemble the bolt and you can polish the contacting points of the safety to the striker and the strikers contacting surfaces to the safety. You can also do other thing but I'll leave that out as I do not know your experience level (don't want you ruining anything).

As stated just above. It is a bear to operate the safety for the first few hundred times. Work a bit on the contact points without smoothing out too much.
