cutting stock

i am planning on adding an adj comb on my stock, i did this years ago when i had a band saw with an 1/8" blade, since i don't have a band saw anymore, maybe someone who has done this without a band saw can pass along some tips to make the cut.

Flush cut pull saw with some 2x4 guides works well. You will need the guides for a square cut , the flush cut saws are very flexible.

how do you make the round cut, is the flush cut for straight cuts only

Works quite well. You can't cut as tight a radius like a bandsaw, but careful layout and an attractive curve is possible.

It's called a "coping saw" altho a "fret saw" will also get 'er done.....sloooowly.

Be Vewwy Vewwy Carefull and 2-3 days later you'll have a beautiful cut.

And next time you'll go find a buddy with a bandsaw

Bandsaw makes easy work of it...just have to make sure your stock is flat to tabletop...a jig can be made of wood easily . I nice sharp blade on the high tooth count end will save a ton of time when it comes to finish sanding.

Yes i know a bandsaw will do the trick, don't have one anymore, since this is a hs precision fiberglass stock , i just might take it down my buddys shop set it up and have him cut it on the water saw

Hi Chet: Can you find a local woodworker with a bandsaw or better, a scroll saw. Scroll saws have the really thin blades for precise, thin cuts.
The main problem with cutting an adjustable cheek piece in a formed stock is material loss. You want the parts to line up after the cut but cutting removes material. A bandsaw is going to take 1/16-1/8”. A scroll saw will only take 1/32” with a fine blade.
What’s the stock made of?

Wow,not sure how I missed the "I don't have a bandsaw " part . Was not trying to be Captain Obvious . And I am no help,never dealt with cutting a fiberglass stock.

I might be all wet but i thought the HS stocks had a foam core with a shell. That might not work out so well for an adjustable cheek piece. You might consider the Kydex saddle type that is held in place with a crossbolt YMMV

He mentioned that he “did it before” so he’s prolly aware of the epoxy filling he’ll have to do. It IS a mess!!!.......but doable.

I frequently put adjustable combs on shotguns, including synthetic stocks if someone really wants it. I also occasionally fix comb cuts for people who didn't have a good setup and still decided to make a cut. I suggest having your buddy with the water saw cut it, if for no other reason than to minimize the clean up work after the cut.

bandsaw with pressure roller bearing works best you can cut a clean str radius with the pr bearing, cost bout 60.00 take upper bearings off put in pr bearing has a slot in it to guide blade, exteme radius can be cut with 1/8 or 1/4 blade>>>> Carter blade stabilizer<<<

I installed a set of flush cups on my HS Precision rifle only to find out that the rear portion of the stock was hollow. You might have to remove the recoil pad and fill it with high density foam let it cure, then do the cut. Or call HS and let them know which stock you have. Some are hollow and the ones that come with hardware from HS are usually fabricated different.
