Customized AV Sako

Howdy all,

Well, I kind of lucked into a customized Sako off of an auction. I could tell it had been coated and put into a McMillan Sako Hunter stock by the pix. I decided to go for it. Well, now I’m very happy that I did. The barreled action has been coated. Don’t know by what but whatever the material is you cannot discern it on any engraving. Muzzle shows that a plug was used. MacMillan stock has been bedded/pillar bedded and had three flush cups installed-two at the normal stud positions and a third for a ching sling swivel, just ahead of the forward action screw. Oem action screws were exchanged for hex heads. The bedding is immaculate. Finally, the oem #4 trigger pull is right at 30 ounces. Adjustment screws have been sealed.
I got the rifle off of gunrunner auctions out of Cody and I’ve asked if they know who the rifle belonged to or if they have any information on the gunsmith?! There were a couple other Sako‘s that also looked to have come from the same owner with quality smithing done to them. As this rifle doesn’t appear to have been used on a hunt I may not like what I hear about the prior owner, the off chance of the auction company would share anything with me. Oh, oem bbl chambered in .25-06. I bought some Hornady dies and a couple hundred rounds of brass. so let the load development commence.

That was the position of the bore plug when it was coated/ parkerized. The bore is centered.
That's how I plug my bores when parkerizing, I drive a larger lead bullet into the bore, Mine are centered as good as I can though and I never got one off center like that. It does a good job of sealing the bore from getting etched.

My first left handed rifle was a AV 30.06. I graduated from Ruger #1’s with that one in 1988. I still have it. The only thing I had done to it was some trigger work. I love the AV. I have another in 257 Weatherby mag., and also a 280.The 257 is all custom. I bought a bare action and had it built. The action wasn’t blued. It was in the raw so to speak.Sako offered us lefty’s some pretty cool stuff.
You’re going to love it.
Enjoy it, Waverly

Ps I still have my #1’s also.

I’m a big fan of the A-series Sakos. We have 5 AV’s. 3-.338’s, 7 RM and this. Several AII’s. .308 to .22-250. This .25-06 will fill a void. Ok, fine. A want.
