sako action

I have an old JC Higgins with a sako action I was wondering it it would be in my best interest to have the action rebarreled, and restocked. The rifle is about 50 years old. I have shot the rifle and it shoots fairly good. But it is a 222, and maybe get it rebarreled to 223? Any thought on this project? I found out the sako action is a L-46, it was made for Sears co. would it be worth doing anything with? Lou

You might want to check the action length or magazine length. My L-46 is in 222 and fits it exactly, too short for anything longer. You could go the other way... It would be a perfect action for a 17 Fireball or any of the 221 Fireball cartridges.
But it is a 222,
I take it you don't like the 222. Mine is 52 years old with the original "Bofors" steel barrel and it still shoots rings around several other 223's I own w/i 300 yards of course.

That old SAKO action is a good one. The rifle would sell for a good price. Reberrel, stock and quality scope, trigger and you have a tack driver in that caliber, .222.
50 years ago that was the "cats meow".

Gentlman thanks fgor all the information. It's not that i dislike the caliber, but sure you know how it is never satisfied ;D So as I said I will keep it, it shoots well enough out to 100 yards for a ground hog or two. Besides I have a 2 year old grandson who follows me around like a shadow. If the Good Lord keeps me here long enough it will be a good rifle for him to plink with. Happy Thanks giving to all and your familuies. Lou
