Custom varmint bullits

Who out their makes good custom varmint bullits besides Berger that would work good for coyotes, fox and groundhogs.

Calhoons bullets work quite well but I dont know what he makes right now,you will have to check his site.I wouldnt rule out any of the higher end hornady v-maxes and sierra game kings. They are expensive enough.LOL

I here the Amaxes are good bullets and shoot well. I am having some rifles done and getting into shooting heavier bullets for varmints to take advantage of some areas i hunt at longer ranges. In the past it was always lite bullits and blinding speed with the ackley improved. I am just curios as to what works well in 6mm, 6.5 cal and 308. I want something that will exspand and not punch a hole clean through the size of the bullet.

The 105 Amax is a great long range slug with a high BC. I've shot the 155gr Amax out of my old 308 and they were lights out. As far as the 140gr Amax for 6.5 I've never shot them but have a buddy building a 260AI around the 140gr Amax.

fowler bullets are the most consistent in weight and base to bearing surface i've used. once weighed and sorted some 87 v-maxes and NONE were 87 gr and the base to bearing surface varied by as much as 20 thou. hornady replaced them at no cost...all were clones but were from the same lot no? thetip of the fowler 52 gr .224s and 80 gr .243s are open enough and thin enough that they could be considered "varmint bullets". the consistency of these bullets is unbelievable! i have always been a berger fan for varmint bullets, but the fowler's are more consistent and less expensive.
if i can see you, i can touch you.BANG!

the hornady v-max has worked well with the qualification of small and lite..... out of my 220 ackley
the 40 grain would not exit even at 4200 fps.... these were one hole at a 100 and would drop coyotes at 400 yards..... the heavier v-max would go clear through and make some pretty big holes.....
a gunsmith friend (Dave Young in Tracy Montana) has made some awesome 243 and 6mm with Mcgowen barrels for Randy Anderson and Shawn Heyden to shoot coyotes for videos shooting a
70 grain Nosler Balistic tips.....these rifles would both shoot in the .2's .... both were 700 actions....
I think you will have a hard time finding a bullet that won't make a hole clear through without the damage unless it is fmj and i guarentee you will become a great blood trail tracker when your done...
the price of fur is in the toilet bowl as of late and doesn't seem to be comming back soon....
even the pale no. 1's put up are minimal in price... and the mange mites aren't helping things......even have found some of th e fox here the last 2 years are getting mange.....
you can drive a 70 grain 6mm nosler bt bullet at 3900 fps and with a shoulder hit it doesn't make a big mess... and the coyotes will be drt
as said before there are alot of regular bullets that are accurate and waymo cheaper

Nosler Ballistic Tips in the caliber of your choice are my absolute go to varmint bullet. I have used from 22 cal 40 grain up to 6 MM 95 grain all with match grade accuracy and devastating results.

Well as long as everyone is mentioning factory bullets in a custom bullet thread,,
,,might as well toss in the Barnes Varmint Grenade.
It was very easy to work the 36grn up with Benchmark in my 223 1-12, I'll be trying the 50 grn'rs in my 1-9 soon.

i will agree with necchi about the barnes vg..... i was really skeptical about them staying together with high rpm's but they do ...... i just cant get the accuracy out of my gun with the 50's vs the nosler..

I have to agree with every one, bullet makers don't last long producing a bad product. They are strive for accuracy. I have used several bullets in my 6BR 1-12 twist Savage 12 Stainless with the aliuminum bedded composit stock. I was looking for a heavy bullet that will stabilize in this twist. I saw an add for Fowler bullets that thier 80 grain 6MM Bullet stabilizes in a 1-12. He was right now my 6BR is now a Deer rifle. If I ever get my health back in order, I will get to the range have only been once in two years but ain't givin' up. I still keep buying and reloading. I have a permit to hunt from a car in MD and DE. which allowed me to hunt one day this year in Md had my son with me I shot a nice buck that had shed his horns before January 8, 2011. Thought this was kind of early. Only wanted table fare so I wouldn't have shot him just for meat I thought he was a big doe. Lou
