Custom neck turners

I recently learned about the K&M neck turner that will consistently turn necks to .0001 of target. The K&M turner does not cut the necks, it moves the brass into the shoulder or extends the length of the necks. My previous neck trimming attempts led to inconsistent neck thickness & tension. The K&M neck turner is the best brass tool I have ever used, they also offer a power neck turner. If you are anal about consistent neck thickness/tension, check it out.

Ben, you need to check your facts. All of my K&M neck turners do indeed cut brass from the neck. As far as the shoulder goes, you should also cut a little into it when turning the necks. What you described would be a burnishing type tool that cold formed the brass. To the best of my knowledge nobody makes such a tool, and I doubt much anyone would find that to be a desirable tool. Find a YouTube of someone turning necks with a K&M turner and you should see brass shavings coming off the neck.

Not a K&M cutter, but a K&M mandrel. It clearly takes brass off the case necks.

I have a boatload of brass shavings when I turn with a KM.
A personal choice that I made for my own sanity is that I am not letting one or two ten thousandths of an inch drive me to drink when other variables seem more important like wind and trigger pull.

I can't figure out exactly what Ben is saying, but I turned a lot of brass this winter with my K&M tools. I have the shavings to prove that they do cut the necks. He's right about the consistency though.

Without any intent to insult or disparage, have you taken the cutter out of the tool and put it back in? Are you sure it was reoriented correctly? I intimately know some idiot who did that very thing

The K&M tool I use moves my Hunt’s Long Range 6 Dasher hydro-formed brass with .012 necks with absolutely no shavings. My 200pc of .010 necks are all exact. Consider emailing K&M so you can gain some confidence & get the right tooling. This neck turning process is about perfect, not low cost brass or tooling.

How you orient the cutter is an option. How you move or remove the neck brass is an option. Let me know when you have cut the necks of 200 pc of brass that are all 100% within .0001.

Ben..... are you saying that when you run your hydroformed brass over your cutter, that it doesn't "CUT" it, but it "MOVES" the brass into the shoulder area?
Can you please post a picture of that as I am having a very difficult time trying to understand this.
I am picturing a "crushed" neck.... and that seems unlikely as it would take a lot of force to crush a neck.

Couple of questions.... I see your neck mic is set at .010"..... If your cutting at .010, and you then move it to cut .012", did you happen to turn it to .0125" or something? causing the cutter to not come in contact with the brass at all?
Did the hydroformed brass come to you less than .012", thus causing your cutter set at .012" to not touch the brass at all?

I don't understand this at all. In the picture, the tool looks like a standard neck turner that works like all others, by cutting the neck wall.

I’d love to see a video of how this tool pushes brass to the shoulder. I have no idea how that is possible.

I will try and figure out a way to set up the camera in my phone to show you the “smush” neck thinning process. IMO, this is a game changer for “perfect” neck consistently. This is fun for me, as I started reloading with a 16 ga Lee Loader at 12 yrs. My mother (RIP) warped me with her saying “do it right or don’t do it at all”. Does perfect brass show on paper?....probably not but perfect ammo might.

I would also like to see how you are doing this, I must be missing something. You might be on to a new method. I certainly don't doubt your sincerity, but I can't figure out how it works.

I have the same neck turner. When using a different brand I cut off too much. Ran the same brass through the K&M and I was back to perfect consistency and brass was then at the dimension I wanted.

My k&m tools seem to cut to the exact .0001- its hard to get them adjusted there but once set theyre all the same. Mine cut like a lathe tool most definitely. I must have got a good dozen of them and never got a bad one

Let me get this straight. Your micrometer told you that you cut too much with brand A neck turner. You then ran the same brass that was previously turned with brand A through the K&M. When you measured the wall thickness after passing the brass through the K&M it was then greater than the previous reading?
