Does anyone know of a place where I could find a .265 expander mandrel? I have donuts in my 260 lapua brass and would like to remove them in this manner. If anyone has a better suggestion please feel free to help a brother out. Is pushing the donut to the outside the right way to go about this? I plan to try just resizing about half the neck to see if this works but have had mixed reviews on this method. Thoughts??

You can buy an inside neck reamer and cut them out... i think thats what it is i havent done it though.
How many loads you got on them that they formed donuts? Ive never had one do that...
If its a lot of loads itd be easier to get new brass.. something aint right though if your getting donuts in a 260

We necked up 243 brass to 260. Pretty sure that's what caused it. Have heard many guys say that typically is what causes it. This is my first time using Lapua brass. Other than the donut (which would happen with any brass that is necked up) I love the consistency of the brass. Its worth the money IMHO.

One way or another you will have to cut the excess brass from the outside or the inside of the neck; you can expand it outward and turn it off or you can squeeze it inward (bushing) and ream it out.
I have experimented with mandrels, but I now neck turn my 260 Rem brass from time to time, because as stated above, the excess brass needs to be removed.
I've found this with both Nosler 260 Rem brass and Lapua 260 Rem brass. I have 2 x 260 Rem chambered with the same .274 neck reamer. Donuts just seem to be a feature of the 260 Rem to me.

Just call Neil Jones and tell him what you want. He will make you any diameter you want. I follow a two step procedure:
- I expand with a mandrel about 0.0005 inches bigger that thee pilot on my neck turner
- I inside neck ream wwith a custom Wilson inside neck reamer the same diameter as the neck turner pilot.
When you necked up the brass, you did so with an expander mandrel, right?
This already pushed the neck-shoulder junction, that is your donut, outward, in creation of it.
Now, some will spring back. So you have some outside & some inside.
Have you carefully measured this to define the problem(or lack of)?
It's a price in forming that way. Could take a combination of actions to fix, if an issue.
But as mentioned, if you're not seating bullet bearing into donut area, and you're not sizing donut area(never ever do this), it may not be an issue at all. One of the advantages to bushing neck sizing is that it's partial length neck sizing, usually adjustable in both length & diameter.

I thought the same thing, but if I don't resize the very bottom of the neck, where the donut would be pushed to it should in theory stay there right? To do this I put a half inch diameter washer over the case so when I resize the neck with the Lee collet die it doesn't resize the neck totally.
I haven't made any measurements, just noticed the donut when I went to reload this brass for a second time. Was measuring chamber demensions on my new rifle with once fired brass and tried to slide a bullet into a piece of fired brass and noticed it wouldn't fall past the neck shoulder junction.

Are you mag feeding? If not, I would throat out the barrel and not worry about the donuts. Also try a bushing die, If you dont size the donut area it may expand enough to not cause any seating issues.
That is what I did with all my cases that had neck base donuts. It works just fine.
Berger 130's I can stay above the donut. Amax 140's I can not. Was going to check 140 ELD's to see if the ogive is farther back than the Amax.
Well, Mr. Wheeler... Ive heard a ton about you from 22brguy. He's me papa. As far as mag feeding... I'd like to for hunting purposes, but the reason I got this rifle is so that when it goes off whatever is on the receiving end wont need a second shot.

If you want to ream out that donut, economically, you could use this Forster reamer:

It's stated in Forster's instructions to be ground to 0.2665" and is to be used on a fired case (not yet resized.)
