Custom build Rifle for UK - but who?

Hi guys,

This is my first post I live in England,Norfolk) and I want to have a custom rifle made to shoot foxes with. All Most all of the shooting will be done at night with a lamp and the rifle will have a Reflex T8 sound modorator fitted,we are allowed them over here) the range would be between 150 and 350 yards.

They are plenty of good rifle builders over here but everthing is so expensive, about twice what you guys pay) I know roughly what I want, a .243 AK imp, Mc Millan A5 stock, not sure what action but maybe a blue printed Remington, varmit 24" or 26" barrel, jewell tigger. I already have a Night Force NXS 5.5 x 22 - 56 scope to put on it.

I am looking into having a rifle built in the USA and then shipping it over here can anyone recomend a really good rifle bulder that I could talk to or give me some websites to look at.

Thanks

There are several good gunsmiths, but beware. Mike Bryant has built and shipped many rifles to the UK. Check www.bryantcustom.com. Mike is a very honest guy and does very good work. He has started a new house and may be a little slow for a while. He will deliver when he promises and at the price that you are told.

Dave Tooley at Tooley custom rifles is a great BR/LR builder and he has arrangements already to ship guns to the UK and has been doing it for years. He goes over every year to shoot.

Cannot remember his website, but you can PM/email him on BRCentral.

Yes,try Chris Mathews at Longshot Rifles.
He's building a custom rifle for myself and shipping it to Scotland.
A custom built rifle in the States is way cheaper than in the UK,even with import tax,VAT etc.

Good luck.

Hi there ballie, if you consider a smith in the uk I would check out neil mckillop, his prices are very good and resonable not like some of the other smiths, you may alraedy know of him he is on the airgun bbs as dasherman. He has built some very accurate rifles. Also his turnaround is very good compared to anyone else my rifle is only away for 2 weeks getting bedded, rebarreled and proofed.

As for your rifle dont bother with a blue printed remi action by the time you buy an old action and get it blue printed you could start on the right foot with a stiller predetor which is based on the 700 action but built to much finer tolerances and alot prettier, it als has a 700 footprint so getting accesories like triggers and stocks is easy, I think these action run for about £600. Also give some consideration to the 6X47 sm, The 243 ai is a great cal, but a bit of a barrel burner if loaded hot, the 6X47 would make a great long range fox tool being so accurate and all, also a 6mm dasher is a real cracker, neil built one of these for himself. If you want neils number pm me and ill give it too you, he is a stand up guy and will do whatever it is you want but will tell you if your going the wrong way. I am thinking of building a 6mm after christmas myself dont know what yet but somehing similar to what you want. ALL the best

Yeah, my vote goes to Neil to, he does an excelent job at a good price, and he is also a first class engineer. He built me a 6.5 X 47 Lapua which is shooting really well. I think his popularity will go from strength to strength.
