Custom Actions

Just ordered a Bighorn for myself for a field gun. One of the best values out there IMHO. ;D

Congrats on ordering a Bighorn.

I feel fortunate AJ is in my backyard, been in his shop a few times. He's an excellent machinist and a great guy to deal with.

Have a couple rifles built on Bighorn actions. Basically a Remington R700 body/footprint and a Savage like floating bolt head. Excellent fit/finish, very happy with them.

For you people with the Stiller actions, did you go with the M16 or Sako extractor and how do you like it? Thanks.

I have two Stillers. both with the M16 extractors. Have you ever seen THAT guy that has the same widget as you and has nothing but problems with that widget??? Well that is me with SAKO extractor's.. Im that guy. I will never order another SAKO extractor bolt again. Yet how many folks here have no issues at all with them... Tons Im sure.

This is was what made me not buy a Pierce action on my last purchase. They did not offer an M16 Extractor and when asked if they would supply a bolt without the SAKO cut in it so I could do it myself they opted out. So i purchased a Defiance instead.

So far I have One BigHorn, two Stillers, and one Defiance. Think Ill have to get a BAT next.

M16 extractors have been flawless for me...

Maybe I'm blind but I just went through the website again and didn't see any pricing. If someone could provide a link to the pricing that would be great.

I like the looks of several of those "custom actions" . However I'm thinking I'll just buy a 700 in whatever length I decide to use and have my gunsmith buddy square the action and lap the lugs . He can also rebarrel it and chamber it for me . I'm kinda partial to the HS Precision stocks with the aluminum bedding blocks .

My buddy has also recently done a 700 and 722 factory triggers for me that now weigh 12 ounces with no creep . So I may have him rework whatevers in the donor gun if he can get it there . I already own the reamer for what I anticipate making .

So cost should be something like this ,

donor 700 $450

HS Precision stock about $300 our cost

Shilen #4 stainless about $225 our cost .

Since he and I trade work rather then money I should be in a decent 6.5-06 long range hunting rifle for about a GRAND or less if I decided to piller bed the factory stock !

Have the same thoughts about a 6.5-300 Weatherby , already know of a good older 700BDL in 7 REM MAG that would make an excellent donor for the Weatherby round . So that one would be about $700 plus the cost of reamer rental !

I also have in the safe a nice old lightly used Remington 700BDL 06 that was made in the 62-64 range that would cut the 6.5-06 cost down to the barrel alone . But I'm having a hard time talking myself into tearing that one apart and rebarreling and pillar bedding !

you should really try a low milage sendero.actions are straight as are barrels .comes with a aftermarket stock ,just needs a good bed job.i just bought one and greatly suprised.26" bbl with 1n9 twist. .243 cal

I had stainless fluted Sendero's in 25-06 and 7mm REM MAG before as well as Varmint stainless fluted 700's in 220 Swift and 308 . All four of those guns shot extremely well !

So much so that I didn't have the heart to tear them apart to make something else .

Is Nesika still in production ?

I was under the impression after Dakota bought them out and then Dakota disbanded or whatever you wanna call it production had stopped ?

Same with the Miller single shot action ?

I really love my Nesika's. They are J's and both on 6ppc. I have a 6BR with a BAT and I like it about the same as the Nesika. Something about the Nesika J makes me feel warm n fuzzy.

I just got one from Third Generation Shooting Supply and it was $1077.95 with 20moa rail, pinned recoil lug and shipping.

I own several trued 700 & XP100 actions all with Jewells and all shoot very well but once you've owned a custom action and you get use to just how smooth they are you'll be hooked for life. You'd be best served and money ahead to sell your complete 06 outright and go with a custom action. Even if it means holding off and buying your other components such as stock, barrel and trigger as you get the funds. When it becomes time to sell you'll most likely get a much better return with a custom action.

Some of the prices seem a bit off you guys are throwing out.
Id like to know the smiths you guys are using to get custom chamber fitted fluted barrels for 450???? ???
Last time i checked barrels were running 400, fluting 150, chambering and fitting 250. thats 800
