Your response tells me much , Tim. Like you are unfamiliar with slow rust blue and professional metal finishes. I have been gunsmithing for 26yrs now. Professionally trained at that (MCC Class of '93). So I know bit about the subject. I graduated at the top of my class and have kept up on the 'advances'. No coating can rival a proper slow rust blue. About the only thing we might agree upon is "prep is VERY important". Few that I have met, sands the few other gunsmith school grads, have much of an idea at all about metal prep. I know enough about metal finishing that I have seriously thought about applying for professional membership in the ACGG as a metal finisher. No bead blast allow there, to cover the lack of metal prep! While in school, we were graded on our metal finishing by the instructor after he inspected the entire firearm with a magnifying glass looking for imperfections. And, we didn't submit just 1 firearm, we were required 6 to complete the metal finishing part of the course. Then, in the second yr, we had Advanced Metal Finishing. (I began my career in the machining trade in '74, so I know a bit about that, too!) I didn't learn the trade by watching YouTube videos and asking questions on the interdnet!
