Here you go:.....Does anyone know who produces a modern 98 Mauser action? I prefer new steel/metallurgy and tolerances but the old classic Mauser design.
Wow!!!
$3200 for an action. Is there another source for a good Mauser?
Look for a J.C. Higgins (Sears & Roebuck) model 51. Manufactured FN in Belgium, they have a High-Standard barrel on them and the ones I have owned have all been very accurate. The only downside to them is that the trigger design is a bit odd but it can be easily replaced with any trigger that fits a 98 Mauser.Wow!!!

Sarco haș them.Hoping I can get some help here.
I want to build a classic style hunting rifle, you know, with real walnut, not plastic or fiberglass.

I have had several '98's over a long period - and now down to 2. Both are Spanish actions from the 1960's and both perform quite well. One is a 243AI with a Pac-Nor barrel - my first custom rifle. Still shoots under 1/2 MOA and explodes bunnies. The other is a Parker-Hale Safari in '06, which was built "to spec" by Alfred Parker ( by it's "AP" serial number) and has tight tolerances, chambered for Norma ammo. Believed to have come to NZ as a factory sample.
Another alternative is the Montana Rifleman action ( are they still made?), Which features a Winchester type trigger on a Mauser style bolt.
I appreciate the controlled feed on the 98. The action can be cycled quietly ( without the "ping" from the magazine) and a reliable half-cock and/or safety -a benefit for hunting.
Are you familiar with actions made by American Rifle Company?Hoping I can get some help here.
