Crooked chambers/ uneven lands

That's because your "perception" is wrong.

I can't think of a single person I know that will or won't have someone do a barrel based solely on the type of lathe they own. Serious shooters and competitors don't give two shakes how a barrel is set up, machined or how fast or slow it takes to do it. It can be done on a table top 110 volt 10×26, a Haas CNC center, between centers, through the head stock, with a steady rest, with two spiders, threaded toward the shoulder or upside down and in reverse. It can be done in a greasy shop with a couple of 40 watt bulbs hangin' over a dude in bib overalls or in the moon light by Swedish virgins drinking Perrier.

The results are what matter. Talented people turn out great work with all sorts of equipment. They type of equipment they use or purchase is as individual as each person and their business circumstances.

I have no idea what you are blabbering about. I have ZERO "perceptions" of anything (why you used quotes I have no idea). I never said any such thing.

I DEFINITELY know people that buy barrels based on how or WHO it was done by... But I have no dog in that fight. I think a lot of the barrel business is pure marketing.

That's why he said what he said.

Hahaha figures. The one statement that I made what was based purely my own observation of the gun business.

The whole idea that firearm customers aren't being marketed to, and that market is not shifted by fanboy opinion on social media---most especially, (same as every other market) really does give me a chuckle. And LOTS of the new social media fanboys LOVE THEIR HIGH TECH (and there are lots of them--- go over to Snipershide, they have 1M members), and they spend money in that direction. They LOVE a guy with a good Youtube video.

BTW To imply that I am some kind of equipment snob (if that is what was being done) is ridiculous beyond belief.

Heck, I am the guy with the "budget barrel" business.

I should link you to the Sniperhide review of my barrel. The one where no one seems to believe the "results" are true. Because mine are too cheap?

Snipershide is barely better than ARF. I avoid both like the plague. Hard to learn anything over on those sites.

I would like to see how barrels are chambered on centers on a CNC machine.

I doubt it was done between centers, but in one of Erik Cortino's videos, he talked about chambering barrels in his I believe 5-axis CNC machine. If I remember correctly he did 5 identical barrels and part of the g-code was machining a sacrificial reamer holder for every barrel. He expected them to shoot the best of any barrel he'd ever owned. He said they shot decent but not record setting. He also stated he used Alex Wheeler's barrel for the win. If you are a member of his Patreon or forum, you can probably find the information. You asked about how to make money at gunsmithing. The guys that are selling information and have a lot of YouTube hits are making more money on social media than they'll ever make running a machine tool.

In the video with Mark Gordon of Short Action customs, he says it's a dual turret, 9-axis, 80 tool toolhead machining center. Not where he was talking about chambering barrels.

This was the video where Erik talked about doing a barrel with his machining center. Must have been a different one where he said he did 5.

Funny Mark didn't say anything about wanting to come down and help me get out from under the work load I had in 2010. Happy it worked out for him.

As far as I know, people didn't dial in barrel chambers as a common practice until the 1990s.

Before that, I'm pretty sure most of the world record groups were set with barrels that weren't dialed in. They were all chambered on centers.

I think some of those groups stood for decades. Certainly better than half an inch.

I know people that I know that have set world records with barrels that weren't dialed in.

Aggregates are continually improving, and new bars set fairly often however. At least in the 1k game, and are what you look to see what a rifle does everyday. The rifles are much better today than when I started. Some of today's 1,000 yard aggs are 30% smaller than just 15 years ago. The great thing about 1k Benchrest is it has the least to do with the Indian and most with the arrows, and reasonable conditions, so it's a great indicator. Single target records don't fall as often though, so you're correct on that, and I think is true outside of "my game" as well. I test a lot of stuff, but I'm not sure having Alex F one up on purpose is something I'm terribly ambitious about trying, lol.

Yeah, I'm out. Not saying it can't be done but can't help but think the results would be consistent for me personally.
I think there is a thread on here somewhere about the possibility of chambering with a radial arm drill. Not a wimpy one but something like a Fosdick with a really heavy column.
