Crazy Results with 22-250 Loads

A friend called me and said he full sized some 22-250 brass and after sizing, the bump was longer than before sizing. The fired brass would fit in his rifle and the sized brass would not. Has anyone experienced anything like this? He called Brownells and one of the Sinclair guys told him he had never seen that, and it could be the dies.

Seen this before sometimes when two little case lube is used the O frame press stretches a few thou make sure when resizing it's the same or no air gap between the top of the shell holder and the bottom of the die.
normally if you size it so the shell holder touches the die you will have too much headspace my experience anyway with factory dies

It's normal for the brass to get longer as the brass gets squeezed down radially, just before the die contacts the shoulder. He needs to adjust the die down a little further. If it's bottomed out hard on the shell holder, it's not uncommon to need to remove a few thou from either the bottom of the die or the top of the shell holder.
The guy at Sinclair should have known. It's not really rare.

If he's using standard dies, tell your friend to take out the expander assy & try sizing. Sometimes the expander pulls the shoulder upward on its way out if the case. With new dies, I always polish the top corner of the expander ball before using them. Otherwise see reply #3.

Sinclair person was correct a properly adjusted die and lubed case will chamber after sizing if the case before sizing chambered. I haven't ever needed to modify shell holders or die, and I don't mix brands.
