Crazy Idea for Hunting from Front Porch

At the end of the day it's all about the same, where does it end. If i'm knowledgeable enough to use natural feeding areas and bedding areas to ambush hunt is it cheating? Hell in my area we would have to get rid of farmers to make it fair, too many crops to not use them to your advantage otherwise that would exclude 50% of my hunting land. If I told the Farmers I cant hunt your crops because its baiting they would laugh and respond go shoot deer. I've found its often better to not discuss your methods, areas change deer populations vary and how they are looked at varies drastically in different areas.

Try catching a salmon or halibut without bait or a lure. It is absolutely no different with a deer. Some of you are trying to find the moral high ground to make yourselves feel good. Killing IS killing.

Wow, you can probably tell who lives in the city and who lives in the woods in this thread.
Clunker, buy the land, improve the habitat, sit back and see what comes your way. Keep in mind in the part of the country you’re talking about, if you improve the land for prey animals, you will also be attracting predators. Lions, wolves, black and grizzly bears. Well managed land will benefit literally hundreds of animals, even on small acreage.
For what it’s worth the next deer I kill on my land will either be the one that continually interrupts a good shooting session by grazing in front of the targets, which are conveniently placed to shoot from my porch. Or the one that stands about two steps in front of me blowing and stomping in the snow when I take feed to the horses. I don’t mind giving them a place to live, but when they act like they own the place and start treating me like a servant something has to be done.
You’re plan sounds neat, but most people I know that have a place like you’re imagining end up shooting what has become a pest, what won’t make it through winter or that antlered doe that probably doesn’t need to spread its genes. That will depend on you.
A man who spends his own time and money as a steward of the land and animals, gets as much respect from me or maybe more, than the guys that make it as difficult as possible on themselves to kill an animal for no other reason than they want to.
No one really needs to hunt anymore and the ones that do, take the sure thing. Trying to assign a moral level to basically killing for pleasure never has made much sense to me.
I will say shooting a zebra in Texas doesn’t make much sense either, but what do I know, I still think two bathrooms is the proper number of choices.

my feeder is 50 yards from my front porch and 20 yards from the back roll up door of my shop.I could shoot deer every night , but I'm saving them for the real hard times,

There are many reasons for shooting an animal, survival, sport and to put food on the table.
Too many people today are struggling with the extremely high cost of living and to be honest, I don't know how they make it on basic wages. Many of those don't hunt for the sport, they do so to put food on the table.
I am amazed how so many that are more fortunate feel that they should make comments regarding those that hunt for survival. Maybe they have never had to struggle or maybe they just forgot.
I would hope that we would stop and consider life from the other guys point of view before we make comments.

Do whatever you want, it's you're money and time. But here's what happens many times. Others will build stands and blinds on you're property lines and cut you off, taking advantage of your work. I've seen it happen many times and it can be a real problem. You can't control what you don't own. Just something to think about. Barlow

I live in Texas and compared to other states, we seem to have some very conservative game laws. In other words, we don't have a bunch of bleeding heart liberals mandating to us how to hunt and fish, because they don't want you hunting anything. So, I followed the laws.
My Dad and I killed and caught about everything there was in this area. He had one rule. If you don't want to take it home, clean it and eat it, DON'T KILL IT. Destructive varmints got executed.
As to the moral high ground, some on this site will tell you it is ok to kill a deer/elk as long as you chased it over 2 mountains and gave it every opportunity to escape...."fair chase". Then, all they want is the rack and the cape. I kill deer because I like to eat them. And I don't give a flip what anybody thinks of me for using my methods, as long as they are legal.

Go for it. Our Creator gave us dominion--kill and eat. I plant wheat or oats or triticale every year for cattle. It just so happens that my oldest boy killed his first deer in the front "yard" and the younger one got his first in the back "yard." Memories that we will all share and cherish--food plots help a WHOLE lot more animals than the few that are taken by hunters. I know that I feed a heckuva lot more critters than feed me. And I dont feel one bit of shame when a crow or nutria rat massacre transpires and I partake...same for corn feeders--It doesnt bother me a bit

I've had two buckos wacked by trucks when I've been in the shop real early in the morning,,they didn't stop,drugged them in back of shop,and break out skinning knife,,yum,,yum
