Cowboy Action shooting

Considerations for CAS. I purchased several loading manuals. I shoot 45LC Schofield.

Any favorite loads, I've noticed several threads but many are seven years old, some a couple. Any current favorites??????

Thanks.... I have several manuals ... Reccommend: Meister Bullets Reloading manual for CAS. Complete Reloading Manual for the 45 Colt. Copyright, by Loadbooks USA.

Caution: 45 Colt data is listed two categories. First is intended for original Colt revolvers and their replicas. Max pressure 14.000 CUP.

I used to shoot a lot of .45 Colt. My favorite load was a duplex load of 3grs. of 4227, then 29 grs. of 3F on top of that, with a thin card wad on top, then a 250 grn. flat nose Silvercast lead bullet. Very accurate out of various Ruger revolvers, and a Rossi carbine in .45 Colt. Burns very clean, just like pure smokeless, didn't get that pure Black Powder smell though, but lot's of smoke. Don't know if a duplex load is CASS legal???

I jiggled the powdered up cases in a 50 hole loading rack to settle the powder down, then used a custom made die to compress the wad and powder prior to seating the bullet the last 1/16" for final compression, then a taper crimp.

The brass still got nasty from the black stuff, so I still had to soak it and clean it, and tumble it, but it never got real shiny again. Sad to say I haven't shot any .45 Colt in years now. Shame on me!

no duplex loads are not legal is CAS (SASS). I am a life member and shoot regularly. I shoot 45 Colt so if you like, Junnie, PM me and I will share my load info. It is very mild and quite economical. I shoot around 8000 rounds a year in that sport.

The only thing that has stopped me from participating in CAS. I"m not to fond about getting dressed up as a cowboy, boots.

I can no reason to shoot a duplex load, period... Thanks.....

PS. I've been loading Hornady 255 gr. FP Cowboy. About 5 grains of Trailboss.
Also Meister lead bullets or should I say {heads}// LOL.......
250 grain RNFP... can't remember the powder, will have to look it up.. Fun gun to shoot, very little recoil, accurate as hell....

Anyone shoot the Vaquero????? I've thinking about purchasing a matched set.

Do any of the participants shoot cap and ball revolvers? Are they even legal for Cowboy Action matches?

I shot in a CAS match one time only many years ago as a guest, using a pair of Italian Cap n' Ball .44's. It was fun, but they told me I'd have to get a cowboy outfit and join to do it again. Trying to look like Hopalong Cassidy didn't set to well with me, so I never tried it again.

The more people shoot, the better for all shooters. And people are free to have fun however they want.

I don't see the attraction of dressing up as a cowboy. But that's just my own thoughts.

next at the range, try pulling your pistol and hitting a target at 75 yards??????? It's fun trying with a 45 scholfield.....

anyone shoot at 100 yards with a 45 colt rifle or pistol.... using lead bullets????? I've often wondered how the U.S. Military used this weapon during combat??? Just guessing the load was a 200 or 250 grain bullet, the drop at 100 would be well over 10 inch or more. Of course the fps would be around 1000. Way to lazy to look this up, perhaps someone has hard core data?????
