Covid is over, time to trim the fat

Over the years of covid, I put on more than a few pounds. Eating delivery, drinking, etc. At my heaviest I've ever been. 6'0" and 212lbs. Shooting prone i wished for deeper gravel to dig a hollow for my belly to rest in.

I now have a harder time staying in position for a 22 shot string, my sleep isn't as good, and I find lazy days doing nothing more appealing than the alternative.

Tonight my 15yo daughter asked me if I wanted to go on a bike ride with her. Thought about it for approximately 0.7 seconds and any answer other than yes was not good enough. Aired up my tires and set out for a nice evening.

So, to anyone else who may be in the same boat, a 15 minute walk, bike ride, treadmill, etc isn't that bad. Let's all do this together. We'll all be better shooters because of it.

My Brother got me into pedal-drive Kayaking, and my overall health has improved as well.
Yes Sir; low impact and stamina builds quickly!

Those that have noticed my “hobby” of Baking/Cooking and the resultant calories from some of my creations should be aware that I rarely eat such cakes, pies, pastries, etc. My neighbors, friends, and Family are always in for such treats, but I’m trying to keep my weight (even at 6’5”) around/under 210 lbs.
Of course, it’s my fault that the above mentioned group are constantly at odds with their diets.

Wife and I just got over a cpl old fashioned colds. If we hadn't been actively "on the path"..... she was biking everyday,me weight training/archery...

Well,hard to say about the response to these little medical problems. I thank the man upstairs EVERY day to have gotten off all meds. Took 3 years of effort. Not looking back.

Fast,thems some skinny a$$ tires,bwahaha. I just put new gravel tires on wifeypoo's bike a week ago.... she literally rode the last set slick. She loves her Trek. My ride is a fully resto'd old Fuji... base/clear black with new gold decals. Both together,< $400 and we wouldn't sell'm for anything. Good luck to you and your girls biking.
 
I am one of the apparently few people who lost weight during Covid. Not that it had anything to do with the Covid era, I just happened to embark on a serious effort to lose weight which began before and continued through the Covid era. I lost around 50 lbs.

For a while I was walking 5 to 8 miles a day and when the weather turned cold/wet I remembered I had a MTB and trainer which I set up so I could ride inside. Since then I have ridden 30 minutes per day 5 to 9 times per week, probably an average of 7.

That being said, exercising alone is not going to result in any significant weight loss. It helps, it is a good thing to do, it compliments an effort to lose weight, but exercise, in and of itself, is not going to result in much weight loss unless you are working out 3 or 4 or more hours per day.
 
For me, that just boosts your appetite (substantially) and want/need more calories to cover the new daily load. I'm a cyclist, I ride a lot; in a good year it's probably close to 5000 miles. If I want to lose weight, it happens with the intake modifications.
Yep. I forgot to add, I attribute my weight loss to a substantial realignment of what I ate, when I ate and how much I ate.
 
I lost 70 pounds about 12 years ago and have managed to keep most of it off. I'm currently on a maintenance diet. When my 9mm IWB carry rig no longer fits it's time to do something. For right now my body responds well to low carbs. One plate at dinner helps too.
 
Before even getting out of bed, I move sideways with my legs hanging off and do scissors and lifts. I work out with a kettleball, a rope pull with 35lb weight, push ups, calf raises, and walk a good bit. I work out at any given time of day, I’ll even do scissors at night when I wake up and can’t sleep then roll over and go back to sleep. I’ll do calf raises while standing in checkout lines.

Many reps with light weight. All the common aches and pains in my joints has eased considerably. I eat more small meals rather than big meals.
 
Getting your weight down to a healthily level is the best gift you can give your wife and kids.

I have had several friends develop serious health problems either caused or aggravated by excessive weight gain. Best wishes on your journey to a healthier life. It is well worth the effort.

Yep. My '86 Miyata Pista. I've put thousands of miles on this bike. Century rides, club rides, not too many hills though, lol!

I'm hoping by hunting season to be back down to around 180ish. The food intake isn't hard for me to control, we cook nearly all meals now already (I love to cook) but my biggest downfall was lack of activity outside of work and drinking my carbs. I don't drink soda, but do love my good beers and having a couple every day has added up.
 
One of the many reasons I own a dog!
3-5 miles of brisk walk with her every day, eating in moderation and knocking out the unnecessary
"sweets", allowed me to go from 236 down to a current 185-190 while also allowing me to continue
to enjoy the beer I love. My doc says the best diet advice he ever heard was 4 simple words.
"Work more, eat less"

Dgm6mm is right, pouring concrete will show just what kind of shape your in very quickly. The largest pour we ever did was a little over 400 yards for a pad for a new building at our lumber mill.

That pour ate two pairs of muck boots. Not mine but when your standing on three feet high of rebar and pouring or working on the pour and you lose your footing and slip through the rebar, when you pull your foot back up you will find that that boot is still in the rebar and you don't have time to reach down and get it. So you finish the pour in your socks and standing on rebar in your socks is something you really don't want to do ever again.
 
I’ve gained around 20 pounds in the last couple years since retiring. The doctor said walking wasn’t enough to loose weight and stay in shape. I’m splitting wood the old fashioned way, going to have to get the dumbbells out when I run out of wood here shortly.

I can only take so much of that even at 44 with the fiskars X27 and the Fiskars maul then out comes the 22ton splitter.
