Couple Vartarg Questions

First, going to use new Lapua 221 fireball brass. Reamer is a .232 neck. Am I going to have to turn or not?

Second is, Redding bushings for about 2k neck tension? I have to get some components together for a upcoming build.

Thanks in advance.

The build I am doing now is a .20 Vartarg, my reamer drawing is for a .232 neck (+.0005 tolerance), the reamer was delivered at .2325 neck dia. I have sized my new Lapua .221 Fireball brass and needed to turn them since they were around .232 after sizing to .20 VT.

It all depends on which brass you use and what the neck measurement of the loaded round is.
New Remington .221 Fireball brass will be more consistant than fired brass which will be all over the place.
Norma or Lapua brass may be different or the same.
Form it, measure it and go from there.
As far as bushings, get a couple above and below your loaded measurements.

I would suggest you turn brass for a .228 loaded diameter in any brand brass. The Lapua brass does tend to have thicker necks than the Norma or Remington. This seems to work well in my .232 chamber. Good Luck, absolutely great cartridge.

Agree. My thoughts exactly and I could not have said it better. :)

See Redding website for FAQ, and it will walk you through choosing a bushing. Get YOUR brass first, then measure.

Made me get outta my chair........

Just measured new Lapua unturned loaded 20VT rds... .233"

My 20 cal Lapua came up that size too.

For a bushing, use a 0.230" or a 0.229" - either is fine.
