.232 Neck Diameter. How to use Lapua Brass?

Its an older Vartarg with the .232 ND. I have a .229 and .230 bushing in my Redding set up dies when converting .221 Fireball into 20 Vartarg. I don't have the rifle yet but I'm assuming I'll have to turn the Lapua brass to make it fit. I wonder what diameter for the brass after turning?

Unless it has changed in the last couple years, you will need to turn Lapua necks down to fit a .232 chamber. Both my VT chambers are .232 and with a bullet in the case my necks measure .230. The necks are turned down to .013 per side. I use a .228 bushing for reloading - factor in springback I'm running .001 tension. I have .226 and .227 bushings, but accuracy was so good with the.228 bushing I haven't even tried more neck tension.

Thanks. That .013 was what I wanted to hear. So we need at least .004 clearance between the neck and the gun neck diameter?

I only run .001 clearance on each side, but if I were to do it again I would run a little more. Tight used to be what was advised but the general consensus now is more clearance doesn't hurt accuracy any.

I can second SS427... same specs -- .232 chamber, Lapua necks turned to make a .230 loaded round. Redding TypeS die with .228 bushing. Shoots dots.
