Could 6ppc be formed from 6arc?

There is some testing being done now on the flash hole question with Alpha brass...... we will see how it unfolds.

Its all according to who does the testing and if theres any other noise clouding the tests. Theyve already said it doesnt matter in their application

I have some (Lapua} 220R or 6ppc brass I bought from a bench shooter a long time ago. It is 7.62x39 dimensions but it is unstamped and there is no flash hole. He said he bought this from Lapua at this stage so he could finish it his way. If anybody is interested in it send me a PM and we can work out a trade for something I can use.

You can tell a difference in aggs even drilling them out with that uniforming bit they used to sell that made em like .065 or whatever it was. You can really tell if you get into the grendels and use some of that .080 brass. Dasher is the same
Dusty, I have an .062 chucking reamer set up in a little hand tool that I used on new Lapua .220 brass when prepping 6ppc brass.. I'm not saying it didn't hurt my aggs but I was able to win a bit when I was active in BR..

I'm kind of late to this party, but, can Lapua 6.5 Grendel be necked down to 6mm ARC fairly easily? Since Hornady appears to be the only maker of 6MM ARC stuff right now. Or maybe, what is the best way to make 6mm ARC from other calibers, using Lapua brass?

It'll neck down fine but not sure how well the shoulder will push back to ARC length. It's been one of the harder to get brass from lapua for a long while.

Starline makes 6Arc. Avail. @ Midway

Less brisance is the reason for small primer use.
RP 7.62x39 brass is what I use.
Most commonly found donor brass

I haven’t sacrificed any ARC brass to verify, but it should be relatively easy to do as you only have to bump the shoulder back .045 or so. However; until Lapua shows up with an ARC case you lose the benefit of a much better donor case, the 220 Russian.
I guess it depends on your end goal, when one looks at the advertised initial ad velocities from June 2020 and compare those to the later published Hornady gas and bolt gun loads it obvious that those ”ad” velocities are in the higher pressure bolt gun range. If I was going to chase those higher velocities, I would certainly favor a more robust case. Thus, what’s your goal with the 6PPC brass?

Not in my opinion. Necking up is child's play compared to pushing shoulders back, at least in my experience. Hopefully in 3 years you have it dialed in.
Agreed. Since you're not pushing it back very far in this particular instance, it may work fine or may not. Just have to try it and see. But I can tell you that pushing shoulders back and forming say, a 22 ppc .125 short(22 Waldog, I believe), can be a PITA. And, there are form dies for forming wildcats, so yes, with enough will to do it, it can be done by one means or another but it sure isn't the easiest way to do it. I'd encourage someone to use the tried and true 220 R Lapua brass or just buy Norma brass and be done with it. Especially if you're not loading at the very top end. If so, stick with the Lapua 220. It's just a lot better brass than any of the ARC offerings. Hopefully it'll be available again soon but I think you'll be disappointed at best with Hornady ARC brass. Now, the Lapus 6.5 Grendel brass is just as good as their 220 brass but you're left with the same issue of availability and now you're pushing the shoulders back even more, about .070 to make it PPC brass.

Is Lapua making any 6 ARC Brass.
Your correct on the Hornady 6 ARC Brass Marginal at best.
Starline released 6 ARC Brass a while back, sold out before I knew about it.
Been using Starline 6.5 Grendel ,pushing shoulder back about .030 or so and trimming to length. Not really difficult.

If you're looking to make brass that is hard to form, be sure and start with quality brass like Lapua or something of similar quality. Hornady should do us all a favor and stick to making bullets, something they are very good at. You know the rest of this statement. Lol.

I had a guy build me several rifles on Remington actions over the years, he said he had Lapua 6ppc cases that had way over 50 loadings on them. But he didn't use them for competition any more. One of the local gun shop owners that I really liked told me he had either a 30-06 or a 308 win that he shot LC brass and cast bullets from and had 53 loadings on the brass before he retired and moved away. He said that if a neck started to split he would take a utility knife and cut a little scallop out that removed the split and as the case grew and got trimmed the neck would eventually lose the notch.
