Cost to convert Leupold scope to target knobs???

They make both. The s1 dials come in elevation and windage. Just specify which one you want when you call and order. The s1 dials are in MOA and the s5 dials are in MIL. Just be prepared to wait. I believe it took 2 months to get mine but I think they are well worth the $75 each. There is an aftermarket company that makes a very similar kit. It is Kenton Industries and I believe they are $120 for each knob kit with MOA markings. So the factory leupold kits are quite a bit cheaper. Stoney Point also used to make a kit but they weren't very high quality and are now discontinued.

Be prepared to spend $125, including shipping charged by Leupold for return; both elevation & windage target dials, caps included- been there and done that many times. Leupold will call for credit card info and provide invoice describing work and reticle centering info. Charge also includes complete disassembly/assembly and inspection. Worth the cost. You pay to ship to Leupold. It must cost Leupold dearly to run a business in suburban (Beaverton) Portland Oregon.

Where do you come up with $ 125 for both ?

from reading my invoice - unfortunately due to the inexorable effects of ever increasing inflation the price has apparently increased by $5 (five dollars). And apparently adds shipping costs back. Be planned to pay almost $150 for both.

Going to the all encompassing Leupold Custom shop site the price for providing target adjustments as a replacement for standard adjustments increases to cost from $499.99 to $629.99 (msrp) thus $130 on a Leupold 4.5-14X40 VX31 1 inch tube scope. I have been charged the same amount for all the Leupold scopes sent in for target dial replacements.

Straight from Leupold earlier this summer...
....Dale,
We can install target dials on that scope. You would need to send it in to have this work performed. The cost would be $150 plus tax for just the elevation or $225 plus tax for elevation and windage.

I got the same answer as Dale from Leupold when I called and was trying to get this done. That was pretty recent. About 3 months ago. They quoted me the same price for each scope I asked about. They were a vx2, vx3, and vxr. It sounds like they have really increased their prices lately. They never mentioned the s1 or s5 dial options to me. I found out about them from other places. When I called back asking about the s1 dials they said they would fit any of the straight slot, click style adjustment scopes and the bottle cap style scopes that have the cap that pops off under the screw on cover. They said they will not work on the older scopes that have friction adjustments instead of the click type adjustments.

The s1 elevation dial I got from a couple years back, I think I got it for 65 bucks? I hope my data isnt dated at this point. I had to call in and do it over the phone, no web support for it.

They come without a zero stop by default but you can request the zero stop version. I didnt know that but I called in after the fact (and these pics) and they sent me zero stop version.

The zero stop version limits it to one revolution but you can get more by not tightening it all the way low on the turret, lift it up a tad and then tighten the locking screws and you can make it act as more of a detent and slip over the top with a bit more rotational pressure, sort of like a mtc turret.

It should work on all the scopes vx2 and newer. You just pop off the little black cap for finger adjustability that comes on the turrets from the factory and you expose the screw slot adjustment underneath.

The vx2 above will work, the vxll below will not. You just pry the little black topper off.

This is the non zero stop version of the top cap, the zero stop version has a little ball bearing that goes in the divot, that ball bearing is what interacts with the zero stop ring. By raising it up just a tad before locking it down like I mentioned before the ball bearing will hit the stop letting you know you are back to zero but can still slide over the stop for access to a second revolution. Just have to remember that you skipped over it when you dial it back down.

Looks like some favoritism going on here- or different models/vintages are priced different
Sure does, now I know Leupold likes me!! It cost me $15.04 to ship my 4.5-14X40 VX3 to Beaverville (Beaverton) on August 18, 2017 and on August 29, 2017 Leupold called for credit card info and receiving same charged me $120. This was to install two (2) target dials on my scope. I know I am a good negotiator but not that good, possibly President Trump in his business days might get some good deal on a years production but that is out of my league.

Same deal for 6.5-20X40 VX3.

The very informative pics that spife7980 posted appear to be Leupold's S.O.D. (screw on dial). Does the bottom of the dial have a tab that sticks into the slot on the base dial?

$150 per dial or $225 appears to be unreasonable given the custom shop charges $130 for both (target dials)

"Everything is a deal and there is no deal too small"

Yes, stole this pic from the web

Leupold suggests using a bottle opener to pry off the "plastic piece that has the click markings on it" - was this easy? I assume since your package contains a "stop collar" this is for elevation only. I would guess the package without a zero stop might work for windage.

This appears to be a good deal eliminating shipping costs to Leupold and cost about the same as installing both elevation and windage target dials ($130).

Yeah, it was super easy to pop that little plastic cover off. Not sure if I used a bottle opener or a screw driver or paint can opener but I do remember being kind of amazed right away. I was ready for a fight and it didnt put one up. Almost like I couldnt believe it had stayed on in the first place.

Mine is for elevation only, correct. Not sure if they make one for wind or not, I assume that mine could work for windage, you would just have a 1-14 turret marking instead of a -7 to +7.

Agreed on the good deal. I was pricing new turrets at the time and it was right when these sod dials first came out and it was the obvious easy button answer.
I use the scope on my hunting rifle and it is the perfect solution, I took a coyote at 540 yards with it last year. I never would have even dreamed of a shot on an animal with the prior turret configuration and I didnt have to dump the same amount of money into the turrets as the scope was worth to me. I have zero regrets.

Called the custom shop this morning to get a windage dial for my VX6 7-42x56 marked left and right from zero. Current dial is only marked in one direction. Said he would get one out to me, did not ask for any payment. Will post back after it arrives.

Arrived today, no charge. Marked in 1MOA zero to ten in both directions. Will be easier to keep track on how much windage I have on. The stationary base part is marked with a zero and revolution marks from there in both directions to make sure you get back to zero.
