Cost per round for Reloading

My main rifle cartridges are basically non existent in factory ammunition so it really doesn’t matter
My 338 edge
2.32 brass (at 9 firings it’s .257 per)
1.36 bullets
.29 primer
.63 powder
4.59 or 2.52 with divided brass cost.

Thankfully I get excellent life out of the brass
You spent $290.00 per 1000 for primers ?????? WOW

Old thread... I will say it's tough right now.... Especially if you figure in gas to try and find stuff etc.... As far as the cost of reloading stuff , I don't count that... I normally only figure in the components.... Time is the other thing I don't figure in... Your supposed to enjoy a hobby if not it's a job your paying to work at... To me cheap rounds are great but the big pay off is when this crap happens and I can still say , damn I have to much stuff... Ammo is not a concern to me... I also just buy what I want to shoot when I can and leave my reloading stuff in boxes... I also refuse to pay these crazy prices , if others do , well it's still for the next five minutes America and you can do as you like... I still think it's coming down right now , not going up because we have reached the saturation point...

The rounds I shoot are not commercially made so I have no choice but to reload.
It cost me right now with mixed prices (recent and old) about 0.70 a round not counting brass. Or about a dollar more with new brass then on decreasing scale per shot.

Really hard to figure and I'd rather not.1655913883372.png
This is my 5th reloading bench I've built. Do you have to factor this money into each reloaded round? Do you need all of this?
My answer would be no, because the enjoyment over 6 decades is priceless.

I am on my third “perfect” bench……….thing is I still have the other two :-o.

Anyone that says that they save money or can load cheap ammo needs to sharpen their pencil and quit eating the eraser off of it.
Anyone else smell a dead horse?………

Have an order being shipped.
88ELD 0.26
Primers 0.095
Powder 0.15
Brass 0.23 (6mm Hagar, based on 3 firings, some go more)
Shipping plus Hazmat 0.02
Tax 0.07
Less than 83 cents per round.

I guess when the wife and I both shoot it's more like $1.66 a round. She does help out with the cost though :)
60 rounds times 2 plus sighters, Ouch

I find it extremely expensive to buy commercial ammo over what load, as I find it worthless! When I load I use a load that is worth shooting, those that buy ammo throw there money away on BS that don't shoot properly, and is no more than a noise maker to me settling for junk instead of what really works!

Its like getting married, today many take off with whatever first tickles their fancy and soon make it a throw away, just like their ammo, the realize it don't work so they are never happy.

The well spent money finds the right choice, that always works, and never waste their time or money on disappointments, in the case of ammo it's just money well spent that really works,,,, in marriage it's the cost of ruined lives, and lost years of having what you really want!!! But this is how most think today, play now and throw it away when your done!

Like anything in life, anything that is really worth having should never have a time limit, or price put on it!

I've moved 5 times over the years. I like to think each bench is 'better', sturdier sure as this one has a top of two ¾" plywood and ¼" grounded steel plate on that, but I like to think I have it more user friendly. All cleaning is done on another bench.

What would you say is the cost to produce 20 rounds of rifle ammo.

Say compared to a box of store bought ammo.

I already know this is a cheaper way to go, just trying to get a prices
comparison.

Looking yesterday at .22 Creedmoor per box of 20 between $39.xx - $56.xx
At current prices my dasher is at $0.932 per round. Which is up from $0.698 per round in June 2019.

It will vary primarily based on caliber and bullet weight. Using the popular 6BR at today’s component prices…

Bullet 105 grain ~ $0.45/each
Case ~ $1.00/each (decreases with each reloading cycle)
Powder ~ $0.14/round
Primer ~ $0.09/round
Your time/equipment ~ $???
Count the brass as $1 divided on the number of times you will likely reload it. On my dasher, I use 17 times (although my current batch of 200 pieces has 19 firings on it and I’ve only culled 6 total pieces)

Cartridge 6mm 284
Primers 1.7 cents
Powder 14 cents
Bullet 19 cents
Brass 67 cents (Price when bought new Lapua 6.5x284)
$17/ 1000 primer bricks is a great price…can you share your source? Or did you buy all of your primers 50 years ago? Because primers have never been $17 a brick in my lifetime.

I'm still using primers (Tula) from a buy made some 16 or so years back. I bought 45 cases (225,000) as my part of a group buy of 2.5 million. and I still have approx 22 cases left.

Wow. That’s amazing. I thought it was either a misprint or really old stock. Great stocks.

Do the math yourself.

Reloading brings cost benefits as well as quality benefits. However there's more to it, time with my son and daughter.

Even today at 34 my daughter is a corporate executive and when she has a few bad days she stops by. She says she just needs to have the smell of gun powder and Hoppes, it's comforting. My son at 37 who is upper management at his job comes by to soak up the gun smells and we all take some range time.

Reloading is part of a way of life.
