COOPER don't make no junk!!!!

Had a friend who had a "custom rifle build" done last year in 280AI. Supposedly by a well renowned accurate rifle builder here in VA...................my advice to him after testing said rifle was to take it back and ask for a full refund and tell said "rifle builder" he needed to look for a another line of work...ditch digger may be a fit!!!!!!! Barrel twist was not what was specified in order........barrel manufacturer was questionable........bore scope observation from long time BR shooter/ bullet manufacturer also called into question the manufacturer. Stock was NOT as asked for but AN "ALSO AS GOOD AS" P.O.S.!!! It was a classic case of "buyer beware". I am not a machinist. I am not a professing rifle builder. I am a professing " only accurate rifles interest me" guy!!!! This one didn't fit!! I have enough machinist training to be dangerous in a machine room!! I have above and beyond all.....the belief that to be honest is above all!!!!
Friend saw MY COOPERS and groups shot with said rifles!! Asked can I get rifles like that????!! No problem I said!! Call Dominion Outdoors in VA, First Stop Guns or Michi-Guns or Whittakers and get one headed your way!! He did it!! Got himself a Model 52 in 280 AI and I did thebbreakin and load developement and he will take a Cooper Model 52 to Colorado next month that shoots 140 BErgers into little bitty clover leafs CONSISTENTENLY under 1/2 inch @ 100 and also CONSISTENTLY under 1 inch at 200 yards.........I feel it will suffice at longer.....HAVE RESPECT FOR the ANIMALS HUNTED!!!!!!! Just because you think you have all the variables covered with your high dollar rifle, your high dollar optics, your high dollar ammo...........until it is all tested, confirmed, you don't know shit!!! Every rifle is different! Every shooter is different! I can say that 58.5 grains of IMR 4831 with a CCI-200 primer and a COL of 3.333 with 140 grain Berger VLD HUNTING is the cats meow in the rifle I tested it in!! but unless you test it in your rifle it is just heresy!! If you want a CUSTOM rifle.....just call one of the aforementioned businesses.....COOPER DONT MAKE NO JUNK!!!

That's an interesting post including the expletive. Normally on here we try not to use foul language. Did your buddy take the rifle back and what did the smith say? Did he make a signed deal with the un named smith? If he didn't he may loose without documentation.Ask me how I know that! You are ranting with no real explanation of whether the builder made good or not. Did the rifle shoot ok and how were the groups? This happens all to often. You seem to feel that custom builders are not capable of doing what cooper can which is simply not true sir. There are a myriad of good quality smiths and he picked a bad one without doing a check up on him. When ever you hire a smith it is good to get it all on paper as to what exactly he wants to use in his build. I only hope it works out in the end, I know what it is like to get taken. Please up date us on the conclusion as we want to know sir. The only other note is coopers are wonderful production rifles but sid Goodling can build winners, just look at the benchrest winners and you will see his name come up all the time. I am in no way trying to insult you , and I realize you are very upset ,but if the smith doesn't make good then he will have to get council on this matter.

GDH,
So, you are saying that Cooper builds a rifle superior to custom built, or what?

I think he was just saying he HAD TOO MUCH COFFEE!!! and likes HIS COOPER!!! ;D!!!!

I havnt been yelled at like that since I was in bootcamp. Wow. Thats alot of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! excitment about a factory rifle.

I like to think this forum is alot more information oriented and less finger pointing.

Good Morning,

The only experience I've had with Coopers was at a 600 yard BR shoot a few years ago. I observed a new shooter bragging about how he and his new Cooper were going to clean up shooting against the local boys in the Factory division. But, after the scores were posted after the first two relays, he decided that he had to suddenly leave early because of a prior commitment that he had forgotten about. Damn shame because he was so far behind that I really wanted to see how he and his big bad Cooper were going to pull out the win he had been bragging about.
