At my buddies today picking up a new rifle and thought I should post this. You don't see many of these. WW1 rifling in the foreground, Pratt & Whitney behind.20201001_110351_copy_2016x1512.jpg 20201001_100742_copy_2016x1512.jpg

Great pics of some fine old equipment , thanks for sharing . There is a lot to look at in those pics.

These are the machines that made barrels for P.O. Ackley, Louis Palmisano & Ferris Pindell, Walt Berger, Lester Bruno among others. The only Apprentice Boots Obermeyer ever had. Im working on doing a documentary before it's to late. Very pround to call him my friend.

He has made a few barrels for me and all are fantastic shooters. They also clean easily and chambering and rifling are immaculate. He even surprised me with a right hand twist 6.5 x 47 Lapua barrel that I didn't know was going to be right hand twist. It is one of my best rifles. Plus, the direct thread suppressor never works loose - just tighter! He battled serious health issues several years ago - beat the odds just to survive. He is a truly an amazing barrel maker. Also a very accomplished competitive shooter, although he hasn't done that for quite some time. He was training his son but I don't think his son has the same level of interest that he has. Too bad he will have to quit making barrels. No one else like him - his apprenticeship with Boots sure paid off!

Here is a pic of world War 1 Pratt & Whitney cut rifling machine,20201002_070632-1.jpg that we made muzzleloaders barrels back in the day and it still works we just don't use it anymore.

Is it rare for you to get a right hand twist?

You can tell a really good machinist because he spreads love over his equipment by caring for them like members of his family.

A friend of mine has started making left hand twist 22 rimfire. He swears they shoot better than his right hand twist ones. WH
