converting a m16 extractor bolt to mag caliber

I purchased a ptg bolt for a 700 large action a few years ago with a 308bf and m16 extractor. This is a factory ptg bolt not a remington converted. Looking to change it to a mag bolt face as my needs have changed. Is the m16 extractor cutout the same for a magnum and 308? simply open up the bolt face?

I know that on700 conversions, there was an area where I installed a 6-48 sight plug screw. Then I could tune the engagement.

The depth of the extractor cut is different as is the cross pin location. That being said Kings X idea may be an option to consider. The idea being to lift up the extractor nose to fit the magnum case rim.

I've successfully done this with a stiller bolt.... depth of cut is different. I silver soldered a strip of copper under the extractor and filed to act as a spacer and get it to pop over the rim. I don't remember the math but it's easy to figure out, basically 1/2 the difference in case head diameter.

I've done it using a dowel pin dressed down to the correct length. Dab of epoxy to hold it in.

A dab of Marine Tex would probably work as well. Just file to the correct height and off you go.
