M16 extractor in 700 Magnum bolt face

Looking at an M16 extractor in a Magnum bolt face 700, it looks like there's very little room between extractor and the barrel counter bore. Is there a particular one of the 'M16' types that gives enough clearance to the counter bore and still allows the extractor hook to get good engagement into the case extractor groove? It's a factory barrel and I'd rather not take the barrel off and open the counterbore.

Its been a long time since I have done one of these, But we used to have to enlarge the counterbore by 0.090 there may be some newer designs that don't need it, Not sure.

From what I saw you compromise the extractor too much thinning it to work in most factory couterbores.
Would be interesting to measure a badger, LRI and PTG extractor to see who’s thinnest.

I used a Badger Ord. in a new custom PTG bolt body prepped for it- and surprisingly found very minimal protrusion beyond the circumference of the bolthead (it was a .300 WSM) this after I had preemptively opened up the counterbore when chambering. Simple enough to mike this if you have the bolt in hand. I don't know if it was the design of the extractor itself, or the bolt prep done by PTG- but I think it may have worked even without my opening up the counterbore.

The bolt nose measures .695. Hard to get in and measure the counterbore with the barrel on but I'd guesstimate it's .715-.725 based on the wall thickness.

I have done many Magnum Mini M16 extractors and have never had to open up the barrel counterbore. The Defiance Mini is the one I use. You also get a 6 deg lower ejection angle from a Mini compared to a Badger style. Never a bad thing. Pm me if you need help. I have a finished one in the shop right now if you need any readings.
