Contemplating a 6.5 GT

Thinking I want to do a 6.5GT
I know 6 would be easier, but I have a 6.5 barrel sitting unused.
If you have been down this road, please give me some pointers.

Did you get a custom reamer ?

yes on the custom reamer (JGS) and I ordered a custom full length bushing sizing die and Ultra Micrometer seater die set from Forster.

It seems a little off the wall to take 6.5-47L brass to 6 GT and then open up the neck to 6.5. All the expense of custom dies and a reamer just don't seem worthwhile.

There was a time when guys took the 6.5-47 brass down to 6-47. While a few were happy with it most, IIRC, were not. Accuracy was not always stellar. The 6.5-47L has performed admirably.

I have a Creedmoor already. So I was thinking a smaller, more efficient cartridge might be a worthwhile option. 6.5x47 is compromising on my compromise, but might be much easier than 6.5GT

It’s a great srp proven cartridge for sure.

There’s definitely no flys on the 6.5x47! It’s an easy one to fall in love with.

I don't currently have a 6.5 (I have a few barrels in waiting though). I would err on the side of more capacity. Most of the time, it won't matter, but there will be times when pushing a 6.5 bullet more case volume would be better. 6 Gt probably a great case for 6mm.
