Contemlating a short eared bag

I've had a long eared Protektor for a while now, shot short range and long range bench rest off it as well as everything else from sighting in hunting rifles to groundhoggin from a bench. The ears are leather and one issue has been the stock sticking in it. Fixed that by using a used dryer sheet.

Thinking of getting a new bag with condura or the new slick ear material silver mat mainly because I've forgotten dryer sheets before and it kinda stinks. Thinking though about a low ear bag, one reason is that some of my sporters have cheek pieces and they have had issues with the taller ears. So is there any real difference in performance between the taller and shorter ears or some kind of rule of thumb that should be followed with them?

I have bags with short medium and long ear lengths, and use which ever one fits the situation and rifle that I am working with. If a cheek piece hits your bags ears, obviously you need a bag with shorter ears for that rifle, but I prefer longer ears for stocks that do not have cheek pieces. As far as sticking on leather goes, the standard fix is to sprinkle baby powder on the bag ears, and work the stock back and forth a few times. I first learned of this, decades back, as a spectator at a benchrest match. I keep some used drier sheets in my range loading kit as well. When I use them, it is generally on Cordura. IMO the need is not so much for super slick bags, as it is for consistency in break away.
