Contact at PT&G

Curious to know if anyone on here has any idea who to call at PT&G that can answer technical questions about their products. Buying tools from them is a real challenge at times.

LOL!!! I'd share the details but it would bore you guys. Are they the only guys that sell bolt's for model 7's??

The problem is they sell a lot of good parts and tooling but it's a PITA to try to buy from them. It begs the question, why do they have a website offering the stuff if they never have it and think it's ok to make a guy wait for 6 months or so. I do need a bolt some tooling, bushings etc. and some other parts. Are there any other sources??

Thanks

I do know and have a couple of reamers on order from Carey but JGS doesn't advertise bolts, or bottom metal or bushings for the Gen II tooling.

Dave has a tiger by the tail and he knows it. He bought 9 CNC machines 2 years ago and can't keep up. Their phone staff is extensive but changes often as they get overwhelmed by us. Not bashing Dave, he is a genius, has his hand in everything from automotive to guns to aerospace. He needs management. We all have our stories of PTG and Dave does peruse these boards (when he has 2 minutes to breathe). Then everyone says JGS is the answer. They both make quality tools. I DO sincerely hope PTG makes their business plan to include relief for Dave.

I absolutely agree with Daves genius and the quality of his tools and parts it's the customer service that's a problem, and it's a big one. When a guy spends an hour on the phone to have a simple question answered, like what firing pin assy. does a guy need to order to go with a bolt that has a small pin hole?? Somebody on here might know or maybe someone knows a retailer that has enough product knowledge to order the right stuff, that can get it for me. I don't know. Can anybody help??

On a broader note, why is this necessary??

For PTG customer service, call Carey at JGS (541) 267-4331. ;)

Oh man that is funny, and very true! 1-1/2 maybe 2 years ago I made the switch to JGS and have never had one problem. The customer service will almost put you on the floor when the ordering goes that easy. Funny, the same nice lady (Sarah) almost always answers the phone. Ask for a reamer print and you get it in 10 minutes. Its so nice!

I wish I would have switched 2 years ago then I would have avoided my last screwup from them. I finally saw the
light.

What tool questions do you have? Maybe we can help you out.

I have had in excess 9 orders with PTG over a period of three years, and only one glitch, which was not a great problem, just a minor inconvenience, a follow up call discovered a reamer had NOT been processed for production, but with a little help was expedited thru and delivered as promised. earlier on another order I received two follow up calls from Dave Kiff regarding my order details. Growing pains ....yes, but with some sort of understanding and courtesy from the customer I have been very happy with the service and product. Just note the name of the customer service girl and date and details of the order, then do your follow up regarding the progress of the order. Just my experience with PTG, everyone of those girls you talk to is probably overwhelmed on the daily basis..just follow up, it takes a minute to confirm your order.

I got tired of having to send off a new PT&G reamer and have it re-ground so that it didn't cut on just one flute so now I only do tooling business with Manson and JGS. Besides, their tools leave a nicer/finer finish. I never have to 'check' on my order from either JGS or Dave Manson. I can get to an engineer at JGS and speak with Dave Manson if I have a question that the gals that answer the phones can't answer. CNC T&C grinders or not, PT&G needs to rethink the tooling of those machines and maybe expand the training of the operators. I won't buy another of their reamers, they've been nothing but trouble. Maybe they just sell you the rejects if you're not on the "good buddy" list, and then it's up to you to 'deal' with that tool as their 'customer service' is of no help, at all. Took nearly as long to have PT&G 'fix' one of their 'new' reamers as it did to get it in the first place.

Dave ought to consider hiring some of the surplus of "Experts" that frequent this site!

Eddie hit the nail on the head, sarcasm or not. One of the techs i deal with on a regular basis isn't allowed to own a firearm ....... I've placed probably 150-200 orders over the last few years, from reamers to actions, screws to bottom metal, and the last two years solid there's not been an order that hasn't been botched in one way or another, and I'm not taking about small things. But i digress, I would field your question here as opposed to asking them.

The question is, what firing pin assembly does a guy need to order with a replacement bolt for a Model 7 with the small firing pin hole?

I can honestly say I never had a problem with reamers from Dave Kiff. I talk to Dave, he sends me a print to MY specs. I ok it . He makes the reamer and sends it to me. I've been getting my reamers from Dave since he broke away from JGS. I also dealt with him there.
Saying that, I recently had a problem with Ptg , with firing pins. I ordered 6 bolts with .062
pin size. twice I got big pins. Third time was a charm. I ground one myself to finish a job.
Also Bolts were perfectly on size to my order.
