Consistant neck tension

Does anyone lube their case necks to promote more even neck tension , if so with what. I usually just brush them out with a nylon brush. I am trying to reduce vertical at 600 yds.

I don't compete but I use a nylon brush over the lube pad(royal case and die lube).I used to tumble the brass after sizing to get all the lube off but I noticed leaving it in gives me better results. you naturally have to watch when filling the case with powder. small calibers like 223 can clog at the neck with to much lube. I've also had this discussion before and others say leave the carbon in.

I have found the least vertical and lowest e.s. by just running a stiff nylon brush in and out of the neck. Lubing ads another variable that you must control.

I seat all my PR rounds with a Wilson die and K&M arbor press with seating force attachment, IMHO my verticle has been greatly reduced by precise powder charges from my Prometheus Gen 2, seated all rounds by seating force and segregated, and by ojive length.

I get good results by leaving the carbon in my necks, using very light neck tension (unless jamming deep) and/or using moly bullets. If I were to use a neck lube, I'd probably use the Neco-type process as you would use prior to neck sizing. Your post brings up another idea I wonder if anyone has tried - and that is tumbling the bullets in the carnauba wax powder that is normally used after tumbling in moly.

If lube helps a whole lot to control your vertical with no other variations- I'd probably start by doing these:
1)Work on making your necks more uniform if you haven't already done so. If you don't turn, get a tubing micrometer and weed out the worst cases as a minimum.
2) Reduce your neck tension if you have room to do so and have bushing dies.
3) Try moly bullets if you are one of the 50% that believes you won't go to hell for doing so.

If you try some lubes out and have success - please share with us.

I usually clean my cases in an ultrasonic cleaner using water and white vinegar 1/2 and 1/2 with a shot of Simple Green to top it off. 30 minutes in the vinegar followed by 8min in a mild baking soda solution and rinse with water.

This removes EVERYTHING and the cases look new. But, I must dip the case necks into a shot glass with a bunch of small steel balls with a bit of hBN for lube. White graphite would probably work as well. Without this lube, the necks will often cold-weld to the mandrel in my collett neck sizer.

A lot of folks say to leave the carbon in the case, it will lube the bullet in seating. But, when I fire formed my 6BR cases to 6BRX, they shot VERY consistently! And, they were virgin brass.

I had previously done a ladder test and settled on 45g of IMR 4895 . I was loading old Lapua brass and was thinking I needed to have it annealed. Today I loaded up rounds with .015 jam to .030 jump. The .015 jam was a flat line at 300yds none of the others were even close. I hope I have my load for F T/R now.
